Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

This story, I'm sorry to say, is a little overblown. The original story (http://archiv.tagesspiegel.de/archiv/28.12.2005/2258598.asp) does indeed refer to all sorts of military staff planning possible operations, but as of now the considerations against any sort of strike (regime change, strikes against nuclear facilities, nuclear strikes generally as well as occupation explicitly being ruled out as unfeasible) outweigh the opposite. Presently Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordania and Pakistan are being consulted how far they would go in supporting any sorts of strike. As of now, military options are being regarded as bargaining chips. The Jerusalem Post has it all wrong in saying that it's NATO which is considering those options: the original story only mentions the US.

By the way, The Jerusalem Post in its story at one point calls Der Tagesspiegel Der Spiegel: this is quite a mistake. Der Tagesspiegel is a Berlin based daily, which has nothing to do with Hamburg based weekly Der Spiegel.

By the way, yes indeed, there is a similar story in Der Spiegel itself as well. http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,392136,00.html

But it is being made clear that Turkey would most probably not concede to any military action against Iran:
