Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

The Oil Drum: A Conversation with Vinod Khosla, Part 2
Hydrocarbon Alternativesprofgoose writes: In my recent essay Vinod Khosla Debunked, I challenged Mr. Khosla to a written debate on his recent ethanol claims. Mr. Khosla e-mailed me shortly after that essay appeared, and offered to discuss the matter by phone. I wanted to first make sure he understood my objections, so we exchanged several e-mails in which I spelled them out. Finally, he called and we spent about an hour and a half on the phone. We got right down to business. I took a lot of notes, and I will try to reproduce the conversation...so here goes.

Much more after the jump to The Oil Drum.

My friend:
It is all about money

You should have mentioned that the total world ethanol production does not even equal the INCREASE IN DEMAND we need for oil each year.
It cannot work and if we go down this path we shot our load and will fail to replace our needs.

but there will be some very rich people at least for a short time

He does not understand that we dont even have five years at the rate our oil prices are increasing, He is so hung up opn alternates he doesnt see the big tsunami looming. by the time you SEE the tsunami it is too late for anything.
