We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

Drivers Shrug as Gasoline Prices Soar
Consumption; Demand; PricesHOUSTON, March 29 — Prices at the pump are rising again, much as they do every spring as oil traders bid up the price of crude ahead of possible summer shortages. Possibilities for more conflict in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East are adding to the surge.

But there is something new this time, energy experts say, in how drivers are reacting — or, more accurately, not reacting, even as the price of gas has climbed over the last two months to a national average of more than $2.60 a gallon. It has topped $3 a gallon in many parts of the country, particularly along the Pacific Coast.

In the late 1970s, OPEC oil shocks and gas lines persuaded most Americans to sacrifice some of their pleasure trips and drives to the mall, ease up on the gas pedal, and switch to the bus or train.

But as Americans enter the sixth year of rising oil and gasoline prices, their shift in driving habits this time has been much less extensive. What’s more, in recent weeks, gas consumption has gone up, not down, and drivers are changing their daily driving habits only slightly.

Well, well, so the complacency has reached yet a new level....but hey, the new X-BOX is getting plenty of attention!!
People are camping out 2 nights before it goes on sale at BestBuy....and these people vote, too!!

Wonder when they'll come out to camp with a couple of million who have begun to wake up from this strange and self-absorbed version of the "American Dream".

It did not take me higher gas prices to change my driving habits.
Hitting our wallets doesn't hurt enough. In order for people to stop and listen, they need to be, obviously, downright impaired to drive!!
That's quite sad but true.

It was actually Gore's documentary that made me go out and buy myself an electric motorcycle (scooter) which has now saved me about $ 150.- in gasoline, saved the atmosphere about 1 ton of CO2 that wasn't released and sent the money that I use to charge this machine to the Wind Grid in NoCal.
Oh yeah, it also brought down my car insurance because the Wagon sits in the driveway about 4 days out of each week and the annual miles quota came down, so my insurer lowered my premium, which paid for the motorcycle insurance!

CA communties have lots of options.
Key element in the thinking process:

Stop looking for others to do something.
Educate yourself and then do it.
