Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Wind farms dealt a blow by energy study
Hydrocarbon AlternativesFebruary 28, 2005
Berlin: Wind farms are an expensive and inefficient way of generating sustainable energy, a study from Germany, the world's leading producer of wind energy, has found.

The report concludes that instead of spending billions on building new wind turbines, the emphasis should be on making houses more energy-efficient.

Last time I raised some questions on this website about how practical windpower is several peak-oilers seemed awfully upset with me. I wonder what their response to this article is. Like I said before I think wind power is a great idea, but I question how helpful it will be.

The emphasis should be on making houses more energy-efficient.

Well, DUH! Modify consumption 1st.

Consider this however: Some long-term wind contracts in California are going for $0.03 a kWh. Today, some of the newest turbines are generating power at $0.04 a kWh. That is as cheap or cheaper than electrial power by 'other means'.

The conclusion ACTION is fine. Now, where ya gonna get the power to rebuild all the homes? Now, exactly how are you going to magically re-do the power consumption in industry?
