Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Jim DiPeso on America's Energy Future

It was truly refreshing talking to a Republican who shares my concerns about the environment, peak oil and America's floundering, stuck-in-the-20th century energy policy. I am sure there are issues we differ on, but on this one, we are very much in harmony.

What precipitated my call to REP's policy director, Jim DiPeso was an incendiary press release his organization issued last week chastising Congress for it pork-barrel ladened energy bill that hands billions to wealthy energy companies, while short-shifting research into truly sustainable energy technologies, including plug-in hybrids and advanced batteries that will make electric cars practical.

DiPeso writes, "Dangerous pressures building on America’s energy system have increased the urgency of using energy more efficiently and expanding the energy choices available to the nation.
