I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Thailand introduces conservation measures
Public Policy; Political and Legal NewsGrasshopper writes:

Only three energy saving measures to be proposed to Thai cabinet

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) - The Ministry of Energy will propose only three energy conservation measures to the cabinet for a final approval, according to a senior Energy Ministry official.

The three measures, to be proposed before the cabinet at its weekly meeting next Tuesday, would include shortening service hours of petrol stations, switching off neon billboards and providing certain parking lots for taxis at shopping centres, bus terminals and train stations to reduce their empty-trips, said the Permanent Secretary for Energy, Cherdpong Siriwit.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Energy planned to submit a wider package of 12 energy conservation measures before the cabinet, including the change of working hours and days, the increase in excise tax levied on the larger vehicles and the shorter TV service hours.
