Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

some months before president bush said about hydrogen economy then drilling in the planet mars in the future !! these were very loaded statement.
why suddenly he became concerned over hydrogen economy? did he hear about the peak oil ? what's wrong with the hundred year old oil economy ? why drilling on mars ? i heard from USGS we have another 300 years of oil reserve all in alaska !! so why in mars? and mars is a big planet so exactly where is he going to drill ?
when we hear a solution where he doesn't even state the problem then there is a big problem. Many products are derived from petroleum. They include motor fuels such as naphtha, petrol and benzene; detergents, solvents, insecticides, synthetic fibers, cosmetics, medicines, plastics, fertilizers, paints, lubricants, asphalt, synthetic rubber, and many others. petrol, diesel and jet fuel
heating oil, lubricating oil and bitumen for road surfaces
plastics and nylon, grease that is turned into candle wax
plastic :Polystyrene, Polythene, PVC, PTFE is used to make non-stick pans and is better known as ‘Teflon’ man-made fibres like nylon and polyester comes from oil too even nail polish !! from what other primary energy source will provide us all these byproducts ?
Fool me once shame on me fool me twice shame on you bush .
