Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Bush’s approval rating falls to new low
Public Policy; Political and Legal News53 percent say they disapprove of president in new Post-ABC survey

Rising gas prices and ongoing bloodshed in Iraq continue to take their toll on President Bush, whose standing with the public has sunk to an all-time low, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey found Bush's job approval rating at 45 percent, down seven points since January and the lowest ever recorded for the president in Post-ABC surveys. Fifty-three percent disapproved of the job Bush is doing.

...What may have pushed Bush's overall ratings down in the latest poll is pervasive dissatisfaction over soaring gasoline prices. Two-thirds of those surveyed said gas prices are causing financial hardship to them or their families. Gas prices stand to go even higher after Hurricane Katrina's rampage through the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico.

More ominously for the president, six in 10 Americans said there are steps the administration could take to reduce gas prices. Slightly more than a third say the recent run-up has been due to factors beyond the administration's control.

It's poetic justice that the the same conservative
republicans who voted in the "fossil fools", are now going to be paying the most for oil and gasoline, I can't count the number of people I've spoken with who drive suburbans, hummers, big trucks etc. who believed that because our elected officials and thier staff
(Condy rice, Cheney, bush etc.), came from the oil industry, that thier experience from the past would lead to plentiful and cheap energy (thier is a hidden
belief by many that somehow we could magically reduce our energy independance by exploiting the second largest reserves of our new vassal state, Iraq), obviously, this is not the case; before the FIRST iraq war, Saddam had oil production up over 4million bbl a day, fourteen years and $300 billion american
dollars later (not to metion thousands of American and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives lost), Iraq only pumps out at best 2 million barrels a day.
Most likely the republicans will lose thier majority in both the house and senate unless some
"terroirst incident" occurs that will distract peoples attention from the misery of high energy costs, then, the bush cadre would hope, we will all
"rally around the flag" and support our pres. , no
matter how wrongheaded his policies !.
