Peak means the highest point. If you had peak money, it means you have the maximum money, you are not poor. A decline takes time.

Rising energy costs driving lifestyle changes
Consumption; Demand; PricesFrom wood stoves to car pooling, Americans alter day-to-day activities

Across the country, the rising cost of fuel is changing the way we live, work and run our businesses.

There’s a run on wood stoves in several metropolitan areas. In Denver, more businesses are letting employees work from home. Cities across the country report increases in mass transit ridership. In New Jersey, there's a move to let businesses with auto fleets hedge their gasoline purchases. In Milwaukee, business owners say their top concern is no longer the rising cost of healthcare; it's the soaring price of fuel.

With shortages and price spikes expected for natural gas and heating oil, wood furnace manufacturers and dealers are having trouble keeping up with new demand, the Pittsburgh Business Times reports.

The Business Times reports sales of wood-burning stoves in its area have reached levels not seen since the 1970s energy crisis.

This is the free market doing what it does best, adapting.
There never was a need to drive every day to sit at a desk with a computer when high speed internet and cheap computers are everywhere. If a job can be outsourced, the it can be done two days a week from home.
That gives the employee little five minute breaks to catch up on laundry, vacuum the core of the house, and eat food from home instead of going out. It saves money and gas. It puts less people on the road letting traffic move faster and save even more gas. It can reach a level where it has compounding positive interest.
I always checked my work e mail from home so I could know what I was walking into the next day and have as many small questions answered as possible. Workwise, that 20 minute investment uncluttered my work day.
Telecommuting is positive and natural. Telecommuting when sick makes moderate sense in that a person does half of the workload and isn't a work disturbance coughing, sneezing, and bathroom trips.
