Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

I agree with both points mainly, especially the worry of a rise of infectious diseases. As for the cost to renew urban areas into productive industry, it might not be quite as expensive as you think. ...

Doom, gloom, doom, gloom. Are you all so convinced that when peak oil occurs that everything will self-destruct? I'll admit I've entertained the idea, but the more I think about it, the more I'm con ...

If you're all up in arms about finding a viable plant based diesel, the proverbial "they" are very, very close to perfecting a 100% soy based diesel that could be a very plausible substitute. Energy ...

Whether or not it's abiotic or not means little to nothing. If we run out of the supply we have access to, we're in a world of crap. Period. I always liked the idea of cold fusion though. If it's ...

I think it's plausible in the long run. There wouldn't be a sudden, massive influx manufacturing return, but as OP hits and transport becomes more and more expensive, the enormous cost of shipping go ...

Transitioning a society the size of America to cleaner, renewable energy sources while simultaneously using cheap oil to power industry and still remain a winner in the end had a window of opportuni ...

Reallocation may be too neutral of a word admittedly. The function is still the same- Materials needed to sustain the country can and will be used to do so at all costs. The prevention of mass starv ...

I would think that in times of crises, when petroleum is rare, there would be a forced reallocation by the goverment to the sectors that are required to sutain life, namely the military, the transport ...

The assumption that "the fittest" = "the strongest" is the flaw in your whole post. The "fittest" are the subsistence farmers living in third world countries who aren't dependant on hydrocarbon ener ...

A few grammatical errors, but I was in the zone. Shift in a "Since" before "everyone" on the last line. Other than that it seemed legible enough.
