Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

... Anyone who speaks for hopelessness and demoralisation speaks for death. Any society that listens to Doomers will disappear from the face of the earth. It is a classic self-fulfilling prophesy.

What fossilnut fails to say is that Torontonians (and Montrealers) have access to a fairly generous public transit system. That surely helps.

MacSporan: here here!

I've been lurking here for a while and although labels like "doomers" and "cornucopians" have a certain use, I think the terms are a bit too black and white for me. To paint ...

I read "Your Money or your Life" - a book about voluntary simplicity.

Changed my life. Aside from my mortgage (which I want to pay off as fast as humanly possible), I have no debt.

Everytime yo ...

Here in Canada, peak oil is barely on the radar yet. So perhaps what you are saying is pretty US-centric. Here, people are still looking at the short-term price gouging attempts done by the local ...
