I grow onions pretty easily, but haven't tried garlic. Don't you plant them in the fall up here in the north?
I planted mine (Massachusetts) last fall, just as though they were daffodils or other ... |

I think your question supposes that most of them are aware of Peak Oil (probably true as of this year) and believe it is real.

Pawpaws are not that great, but they are pretty good when properly ripe. Kind of a banana-cherimoya type of thing.
