Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

As long as an economy can afford to outbid others, and get the oil it wants, then that economy shouldn't suffer from declines, only from the cost. But as soon as an economy can no longer get hold of t ...

The US has also been more productive with its fossil fuel usage, just not as good as Europe and Japan who set the benchmark in my mind (2-3X better).

It seems that a common assumption in a lot of t ...

Cut the waste; you cut jobs, "

So what are you guys saying?

Monte's quote above states the obvious: so what? This is how our entire eco ...

I lost track of who was saying what long ago on this thread.

All I know is that after CAFE was first implemented in the '70's that domestic oil consumption dropped for the next decade or so. This ...

Actually it's "we bring good things to life", not "light".

GE will have absolutely no problem making the best business decisions when the time comes. They've closed-down or sold many legacy busine ...

Factor in the cost of health care (or non-health care) here in the US and Europeans are getting a lot more value! They're a lifetime ahead of us in social programs (some here would argue that this is ...

'Bodman said economic troubles because of high prices would only hurt oil producers.

Smaller-scale farming can be done using electric tractors and lithium batteries will help with this. (There's several small conversions around but I think they can only plow for about an hour at a ti ...

Al Gore's role has been to publicize something that he (and virtually every single credible scientist in the world) thinks is serious and needs more attention. I tend to agree with him.
