How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

If Russia bombed Poland, wouldn't the aftershock affect its own population? It would be like committing suicide.

Its interesting that someone mentioned 2012 and I just finished the novel 2012 by Whitley Strieber. Its totally fiction and about parallel universes and such, but a good read.

As far as this pole ...

Yeah, I can see all the points you guys have made. The problem with the future is it is a blank space waiting to be filled up. There's always some uncertainty involved and that tends to make me and ...

I remember a time when was driving to Minneapolis on interstate 35. There was a car on fire and they were pulling out the remains of a charred body. It was very surreal for me because I write a lot ...

Even if we did have abundant amounts of the gas, I don't think we have the ability to convert millions upon millions of automobiles to the new prototype, nor the amount of raw materials to produce suc ...

The reason for the surge could also be because we are losing badly in Afghanistan.

The problem isn't just the status quo, its the status symbol. Until Americans lose their appetite for material goods, we will continue down this death spiral.
