We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

There is likely going to be a major oil glut due to recession in the near future. That'll temporarily make people think peakoil is a myth, but the changes will come almost exclusively from the demand ...

PostForum: Planning For The Future   Posted: Sun Apr 03, 2005 12:46 pm   Subject: quotas -- terrible
Quotas are in general a terrible way of dealing with scarcity. They lead to terrific economic inefficiency.

A more appropriate way is to all prices to float freely -- people will consume less wh ...

Sold home (had a mortgage more than a quarter of million $ -- too much debt). Moved into rental.

Sold all stocks in 401k plan.

Made basic plans to move in with relatives when things get bad.

If so, why is it currently being pursued in South Africa? And didn't Nazi Germany use it with some success? And isn't China talking about using it?

I'm kind of uncomfortable with giving conspiracy as the reason no one in the major news organizations are talking about peak oil. Conspiracy is practically never the correct explanation. Even if we ...

I don't think classical economic theory is not flawed. It states that substitutions will occur for oil as its price increases -- no one on this board would disagree with that.

The problem is that ...
