Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

In depth analysis of Saudi or Russia production is important, but you just don't see many charts or analysis in peak oil discourse (and none in the broad media) of the single most important thing in r ...

"Transfer function to a discover curve" sounds a little like what I've done with some curves. I'm trying to post these charts for Russia but I'm like so all HTML illiterate it's like really really pat ...

Given the chaotic production curves of both individual fields and entire countries, it's no wonder few people place much confidence in math curves to predict our future oil situation. But if you consi ...

A single well can't be modelled by any Hubbert type math. Even a massive field of wells can't be accurrately done by a Hubbert bell curve. This is clear if you just look over a collection of productio ...

The economics factors will either overproduce oil fields above the math curve or delay production below the math curve. But if you superimpose the math curve on all this, you get some predictive value ...

Steve - Stranded oil is a geologic fact of life that reservoir engineers wrestle with as part of their job description. In the life of an oil field, you basically have oil discovered sitting on top of ...

"dub_scratch" - I agree with you on the practicality of technology saving us from the fossil fuel depletion problem (I was just presenting the cornucopian mind set of The Bottomless Well). Huber and ...

Starvid has a most important point when he says that peak oil is not an energy crisis, but a liquid fuel crisis. At first, you might say this smacks of the cornicopian view of Huber and Mills in thei ...

I have some questions for bobbyboy. But first, I'd like to toss my two cent's worth in. Hubbert's theory ain't no thinkin' thang as the country tune goes. Rather, it's one of those things you either g ...
