Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

Anyway its a bit off-t ...

I have decided to buy a car in the spring. I think i would still buy one if petrol was at £2 a litre. Assuming oil would have to be at over $500 a barrel to get to that level.

I realize at this poi ...

Perhaps, but I still think petrol prices will have a long way to go before it's simply unaffordable. Like you said, 5 years ago you didn't give it a second thought. Only now are we having to budget fo ...

Societal collapse from peak oil might do away with a lot of modern day conveniences but it WILL NOT change the human heart. We will go on wanting material things. We will continue to exploit others to ...

Another typical political failing. Basically all this talk of saving the planet is just for good PR. If it means there might be some tough times for residents and businesses then sod the environment. ...

Other climate scientists have welcomed the research, saying it may help societies plan better for the future.

Laughing They welcomed it because it sounds like good news?
