Just to correct you on one thing: Oil is not a necessity of life only in the pure biological sense. Some analyses indicate that oil has artificially increased the carrying capacity of the earth by about 4 billion people and that without it the sustainable population is closer to 2 billion. For example, without oil and natural gas as feedstocks for fertilizer and pesticides, food production would drop drastically. Billions of people's lives are therefore closely dependent on oil, as is our entire social structure. Oil is a necessity of modern human life as much as water is.
