Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

OMG.
My doomerosity level has just increased. I didn't think this was possible.
There's a local news channel site which has some discusion groups.
They started a new topic regarding how the high cost of gas is affecting
people. It's been a hot thread.
Lots and lots and lots of people complaining. Gas approaching $3.00 gallon
in the US is causing many problems. Loads of people complaining their
budget is pinched, having to cut back. Truckers complaining they are nearing
the breaking point. Small business owners complaining they are going
bankrupt.
But the worse part is the downright ignorance so many people are
displaying regarding the oil situation. Let's see, there's the people
blaming the politicians, the people blaming the oil companies (holding
back), there's the people that think there's plenty of oil left in the US
(just need to find it)... the list goes on and on. Peakoil appears to be
upon us, and no one has a clue. It's both tragic and pathetic.
You can tell there's a lot of anger too.
I tried to throw out a few posts mentioning peakoil (and LATOC), but I
had the distinct feeling I was just pissing in the wind.
It seems clear we are heading towards disaster given the level of
ignorance most people have on the issue, and the fact we are doing
nothing.

Like many shared delusions of conventional wisdom, their mantra is completely false. The world's 2 billion poor cause more air pollution than citizens in advanced democracies, and soon will produce more greenhouse gasses as well.
Just by decimating the forests of Amazon basin, Africa and southern Asia for wood-fuel, they spew immeasurable tons of pollutants into the atmosphere each day. Their ecosystems would be much better off if they burned cleaner oil and natural gas using state-of-the-art emission controls.
Do you think that a person who wrote this noise will have anything interesting to contribute to the PO mitigation discussion?

I saw that when I was in Cinci this weekend! This guy's article has appeared in a lot of newspapers in the past few weeks. His thinktank gets a lot of money from ExxonMobil from what I've seen.
He claimed Azerbaijan has 220 billion barrels of oil, even though the country itself only thinks it has 17.5 billion
"The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) estimates proven reserves at 17.5 billion barrels which, under an antiquated Soviet reserve classification system, may include reserves that are either not viable or not fully proven."
I loved the 750,000,000 years of coal reserves number. It's amazing that he can be off by nearly 7 orders of magnitude and still get stuff printed.
I wonder why newspapers don't fact check things they print? It's so absurd what they publish.
750,000,000 years of coal reserves... That's got to be some amazing mass of coal. We use how many short tons of coal a year? Maybe if the moon were a lump of coal we would have that much.

People from my "home" board are geeting VERY angry,, pointing fingers,, etc,,, but I love this post.......

Wow, it sure must be tough to live in such a depressing state of mind as you all seem to be living in. I do not see America as the land of despair, hopelessness and agony that you all do.
I see a nation that has increased the work force by over 3 million jobs in the last three years and we now have record employment. Even though some jobs have been offshored, there are more people working now than ever before in our nation's history.
I see a nation with record numbers of minorities owning their own homes, going to college and joining the middle class. In other countries minorities do not even have rights.
I see a burgeoning middle class that would represent the wealthiest citizenry in any other country on earth.
I see a nation that has an extremely bright future for our kids and grand kids because free market capitalism, when it is allowed to prosper, generates the kinds of products to get us out of this energy mess or any other mess you can think of.
I see a nation that is environmentally cleaner than any other nation on earth, even though we use more oil and oil products than anyone.
I see a nation willing to sacrifice at home and send our sons and daughters overseas so that others who yearn for freedom can realize their dreams.
I see a nation with the greatest economic engine reving at high speed right now and showing no signs of slowing down, even with gas prices skyrocketing.
I see a nation whose best days are definitely not behind us.
Is our country perfect? No. We have a huge illegal immigration problem that no one, aside from Rep. Myrick, seems to care about.
We have schools in NC that graduate kids even though 60% fail the state wide competency exam (charlotte - mecklenburg).
Given the benefits and costs of living in America, can anyone truly say they would rather live anywhere else? Of course not.
No one has a higher standard of living. No one has a higher degree of educated citizenry. No one has a cleaner environment. No one has more freedom. No one has a better chance at a successful, happy, healthy, long life than a citizen of the United States of America.
Not too mention this one......

I have to admit, this kind of response makes the evolutionary-psychological explanation for our failure to deal with PO rationally sound increasingly compelling. The legacy brains we've inherited, from our hunter-gatherer past, automatically blame the neighboring tribes for the resource depletion crisis our tribe helped to cause. _________________ "There was a time before reason and science when my ancestors believed in all manner of nonsense." A while ago, I thought to myself that Peak Oil shouldn't be that bad in America, if only the country comes together to find a wise solution to the crisis. But then I thought, if it was really in our mentality to do that, we wouldn't have gotten into a crisis in the first place. These posts are a sobering reminder that even now, on the precipice of the oil crisis, the nation is woefully unprepared. Not only materially, but also psychologically. That last point could be the most dangerous.

Wow! No offense, but I can think of a lot of things that are much worse off on each of the issues you raised.... Interesting that you feel this way.
I definitely don't agree with this -

I think our freedom in America is an illusion - based upon bread and circuses, which will come tumbling down soon enough. _________________ SurvivalAcres Blog

I'm pretty sure he was trying to quote off another board, not speaking for himself. Perhaps a mod could edit the post accordingly? Apologies if I'm mistaken.

Here's a historical preview of coming attractions.
This comes from Time magazine, May 7, 1979:
"...All around the U. S., the lament is the same: in ways both devious and sinister, and too mystifying to understand, Big Oil is somehow out to rip off the public. Says Irene McMackin, a Milwaukee public relations consultant: 'I just don't feel the crisis is real. I don't trust the oil companies.' Even a high-ranking General Moters executive in Detroit remarks: 'The whole thing smells funny to me.' "
I have a definite worry for people of Arab descent when the really serious finger-pointing starts, since they are an obvious target of blame. There will be wide-spread anger on a scale never before seen in the U.S.

This is why Ruppert said to pack it in.
I finally get it. I've been trying to talk to all kinds of people. The prior post about how good we are doing are talking points from oreilley and limbaugh. Seriously, I have heard those same talking points and even in that order. PErhaps he grabbed it off a website.
Point being. After debating people like this I have come to the conclusion that they will do whatever mental gymanstics necessary to protect the matrix.
Perhaps ruppert is right, we have to just worry about ourselves. _________________ Now why didn't I take the blue pill.
