Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I had to explain to them what I meant by the term "peak oil." I am actually busting out laughing right now. How incredible is that? Oh, and Representative Becerra drives an electric car. The hits just keep on coming.
So I tried today. It took a minute for me to explain the situation to the guy and he's all Hey, I'll get something out in the mail for you, the Rep doesn't really have a position on that, he's not on the energy committee, he likes public transportation and not so much building roads but using alternative methods of transportation.
Need I remind y'all that I live in Los Angeles? He's not into building roads?
This is just too funny.
I called Boxer's office earlier today to ask about the Senator's position with regards to "extraordinary rendition." What's the cover story supposed to be? Is there supposed to be some legitimate purpose for this other than doing something illegal? Seriously, what were they planning on telling us?
Here is the website where you can find your own Representative. Their phone numbers are available at that site. I wonder if anybody's going to get their actual Rep on the line or get somebody at an office that is somewhat aware of the situation.

More fun with politicians--
Just got off the phone with the Mayor of Los Angeles' assistant to the Deputy Mayor of Energy or something like that, nice woman. I had to explain to her what peak oil is. They don't really have anything in mind with regards to peak oil, and thought that if this is true then we should all take the bus. Oh, and they run on NatGas here. I mentioned the upcoming production cliff, and she was kind of blase about it. Really? she says.
She said she doesn't know what the Metropolitan Transit Authority has in mind with regards to this. MTA runs the busses and trains and whatnot.

Matt,
I paid my electric bill in person a couple months ago and I asked the person behind the counter what they used to generate the electricity. Do we use natural gas, or coal, or what?
She said, no, we just use regular electricity.
I can't believe it. They really have absolutely no idea at all. No clue.

More proof that everything will be just fine! The government is on top of it! _________________ "Peak oil isn't more than an interesting industry factoid and doesn't have anything to do with the hysterics speculated on ad nauseum around here!" ReserveGrowthRulz

"A person behind a counter" doesn't exactly have authority or the power to change anything.
There will always be ignorance amongst the masses though...

Well, maybe until the die-off!

Ayoob,
Here's what you need to do: cut a bribe . . . I mean "campaign contribution check" that has it's background as the Hubbert Peak.
Cut the checks in crements of $1.00 and send one every few days until you hit the limit, which I believe is $2,000 per person. Eventually, your representative might catch on.
Best,
Matt

I just love your dry wit, Matt! Seriously, some people just won't get it until it's at their door! Others don't get it without a good zinger! Keep 'em coming!
BTW, if ignorance is bliss, why are so many Americans unhappy?
(Not as good a zinger as Matt's, but I'd give it a B.)

Oh-kaaayyy...
??? (I'm extremely puzzled by your comment. If that 'oh exuse me. an anime character' part wasn't there, it would have another tone altogether... And usually people on forums don't usually attack people on the basis of their avatars... but it could be that your old/out-of-touch-with-this-thing and think that your using the correct term or something when you say 'oh exuse me. an anime character'...)
(That, "oh exuse me", part reeks of snobbery for me..)
It seems like your baiting me or something?
Anyways..

Yes there is a dreadful lack of knowledge out there about peak oil. And the ones that have heard of it, thing hydrogen or oil from Nigeria or Canadian tar sands or something will solve the problem without their taking any action.
I think politicians are ignoring peak oil because there is no big peak oil industry for them to get into bed with. If there are no lobbies to make big donations to their campaigns why should they pay attention to an issue. It's not their job to save the world or provide leadership. they're just well paid paper pushers. [sarcasm flag on]

You silly Peak Oilers. All this time you've been writing letters, "raising awareness" through silly things like showing films. Hah. What has that and a nickel gotten you?
I'll tell you what: a cup of jack squat.
What you should have been doing is slipping Superbowl tickets and VIP passes to to Jack Abramoff and friends along with a note to the effect of, "If you want more of the good stuff, you'll start dealing with this issue."
I guaran-damn-tee you that would have been a more effective way to get things done.
