Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I have left two other threads on Iran also free.

Addressing a rare press conference in Tehran, he (Iranian president) appeared to issue thinly veiled threats against Western countries, implying that they could face serious consequences unless they backed down. 'You need us more than we need you. All of you today need the Iranian nation,' Ahmadinejad said. 'Why are you putting on airs? You don't have that might.'

Anyone think he might be referring to an oil embargo on the west ? Smile

I can just see it now. The American people demanding airstrikes on Iran because of their nuclear threat, then the American people demanding an Iran invasion later because of $5 gasoline and $125 oil prices due to an Iranian oil embargo on the west. I think either way, there will be airstrikes on Iran and an oil embargo on the west later this year. Everyone better get ready for some high gasoline prices this summer.

That does add a twist, doesn't it?

Given the present relations of the various countries, can the West afford to let Iran follow the present course? On the other hand, can the West afford the price disruptions of an oil embargo?

Interesting times.

That is exactly what they mean.

Iran's economy minister Davoud Danesh-Jafari said
Quote:

"Any possible sanctions from the west could possibly, by disturbing Iran's political and economic situation, raise oil prices beyond levels the west expects," according to Iranian State radio

That is not what you would call a veiled threat, this all could get very ugly I see a push towards 68 dollars a barrel tomorrow.

The US is screwed if they don't act and screwed if they do.

We'll have to wait until Tuesday to get the full impact of this news, since tomorrow's a holiday in the U.S. (Martin Luther King's Birthday). Don't forget, we also have the unrest going on in Nigeria & Shell saying that they're going to pull all their staff. Can you say $100 a barrel? Shocked

He just acts like he WANTS a fight. I wonder what's in his mind? They say he's not a stupid man. Maybe he's hoping to spark a conflict between the US (the West) on one side and Russia and China on the other.

The whole affair is a classy dead-end. Let Iran have its way and eventually deal with a nuclear armed Iran in the near future or commence swift military action in order to destroy Irans nuclear installations plus occupying Irans NG and oil fields in order to keep energy prices at at least pre-war levels. Later option will lead to a broader conflict with oil-importing nations of China and India and oil-exporting nation of Venezuela right from the start. Venezuela will stop exporting oil to any nations attacking Iran or might completely shut-down all of its oil-exports to any nation for a couple of months.

A full-blown desaster is in the making. There's absolutely no diplomatic solution to resolve this affair with-out having any of the oil-importing western economies crash royally in the near future.

I'd suggest we deal with this conflict before any nukes get in the hands of the Islamists president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who believes the "mahdi" (perfect human being) will arrive and Iran must prepare his arrival. We are talking about a government that is obsessed with the destruction of Israel and the superiority of Islam all over the world. Ahmadinejad feels he's the one to make the Islamic revolution happen. Confused

Sure he is counting on China. do not know about Russia, but China will surely have something to say in the conflict and they have nuclear weapons. And what is more important, they do not have any democracy down there. So if they want to nuclear strike, they will, and there will be no public protests against that, no Greenpeace, nothing.

I think Iranian president just goes the hard way now, because he knows: After the announcement of the coming Iranian Euro Petroleum Exchange, his country is doomed to be attacked by US. Should that Exchange start operating, the US dollar would be destroyed in the same week. US _must_ attack (or Israel, which is the same actually) or they are done for.

uncle sam needs to just calm down, if he wants to survive then he better stop printing dollars so quickly and tighten his belt up.

Ahmadinejad is a fundamentalist religious zealot, therefore having nothing to lose in the traditional terms of brinkmanship. The ruin of Israel and the West would be mission accomplished as far as he's concerned, even if his own nation went down in flames in the process.

Opposing him, the US is martialled by another fundamentalist religious zealot, on reliable record as getting his military instructions directly from God ('God told me to invade Iraq').

What a mess this is going to be.

Even if the US does decide to opt for pre-emptive strikes, the Iranians know only too well how much economic damage they can inflict by rendering their oil terminals inoperable. The only bright spot, is that having become an international pariah, Iran has little chance of getting its oil bourse of the ground with the necessary international support.
