How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

I found a speech on the net made by Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels on Feb.18, 1943. After reading it, that speech reminds me of something that is going on today regarding the US government's global 'war on terror'. There are so may similarities in that 1943 speech and what the US government has been saying since 9/11. Very chilling. Nationalism (then). Patriotism (today). War on Bolshevism (then)... War on terrorism (today). Goebbels talks about justifying the war in Russia as a good cause. He also talks about taking the war to the enemy before they strike Germany. He talks volunteerism for the German army. This will also happen soon in US, then later followed by a draft to fight the future oil wars. There are so many similarities between what the Bush administration has said since 9/11 regarding the so-called 'war on terror' and what Goebbles said in this 1943 propaganda speech. Goebbels actually uses the words terror and resolve in his speech! Very eerie. Looks the so-called war on terror is a front for US invasions of oil-rich countries in preparation for peak oil. What I see today, when our government calls on all people to be patriotic and strong in the face of imminent danger, I see it as a form of brainwashing and fear-mongering (like what happened in Germany before and during WW 2). Please read the whole speech (it's long). You will see what I mean about the similarities.
Here is the link to that Nazi speech made in 1943:

Well, I read official reasons for German occupation of Czechoslovakia, that preceded WW2. It was even more similar to reasons presented by USA today. They told, that Czechoslovakia (in fact only remaining democracy in central europe) is harboring and supporting terrorists, and that they had to act to eliminate terrorists and to protect german minorities here.
Yes, history can repeat itself, people in USA don't realize that Iraq was not nearly as dangerous as USA. Don't forget that Germans elected NSDAP with Hitler in standard democratic polls..
Propaganda is very strong, I read that 60% (now 40%) believe, that Saddam was responsible for 911 attacks too.. well thats the power of propaganda

But have you compared these against any other time some country was going into a major war? I would wager that what you are seeing are simply staples of war speak as opposed to anything sinister. Ii would bet that if you look into the history, any government taking their nation to a major war was saying similar things. This is independent of what kind of government it was or who the good/bad guys were.
