| Do you also think there is a lack of manners showing in some of the threads lately? People calling each other names and using more than foul language. Sometimes it feels like a bunch of low level teenager using Peakoil.com for a shouting contest. |

Agree. In order to get value out of the forum we need to stick to certain standards.
Perhaps it is time for the forum moderators to start excercising their powers. |

I think it has been like that all the time I have been on this board. The difference from other boards (on different subjects are shocking. Still, this is a very much free speech board. Much control would make the paranoid people here believing that the US government has taken over.
A while ago I posted a thread and even if I have seen much worse presentations here from other people, Montequest was upon me and asked me to edit my post. Some people post the most irrelevant threads with a very biased and tabloid (that was the complaint on me from what I remember) presentation. Although it annoyed me, I did follow up on the request.
I really think more is tolerated from the ones with a "fusion" level. I have never seen a sensible sentence coming from Specop for example. Now I don't know how many times he have been getting warnings, but I get the feeling he may know one of the higher moderators personally.

Torjus, I was referring to posts like this one:

Didn't Mommy and Daddy show you enough
attention when you were a child?!!!
You slimy little communist crap twinkle-toed

you're the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human farking beings! You are nothing but unorganized grabasstic pieces of amphibian crap! You little piece of crap! You look like a farking

You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece!
It looks to me like the best part of you ran down the crack of your mama's ass and ended up as a brown stain on
the mattress! I think you've been cheated!
I'll bet you're the kind of guy that would
Fark a person in the ass and not even have the

This reached a level where it's not longer fun to read. |

LightHouse hit the ignore button on me a long time ago back in the psychology thread. He seemed to be quite happy about it too, seeing how he bragged about the fact that I was the first to be ignored.
"Lighthouse wrote:
Your mother must be proud of you, she told you well.
(Congratulations you are the first one I used the ignore button on)"
Now he's trying to seek attention here by tattle telling,
typical and lame... |

Done that a while ago.
Don't take me wrong I'm not yelling "Censorship". Everyone should be able to write whatever he feels he has to write. It's just a question of etiquette and manners which I had the urge to point at. |

There is certainly more male adolescent behaviour here than I like.
Even "sensible" posts often contain personal attacks.
The "with my high IQ" and "you are so stupid" posts are really tiring.
As I mentioned elsewhere, it would be great to have a Stewart Brand WELL type of voting system, where everyone can vote on other poster's abilities & relevance.
Users can then select a "noise level" below which they don't what to view posts.
You could then be presented with say the top 5% "best" posts/posters of the day rather than having to trawl through posts from people who are on one of more "ignore lists".
I can certainly do without "I will kill everyone with my M16" type drivel.
I would also like a "topic filter" ... I never want to see a bio-fuel post ever again ... they seem to appear in ANY topic, like spam. |

And if you were referring to what I think you are, for relevance, and accuracy, you really mean M-14. |

| Bad idea. If you can handle peak oil, you can handle cursing and shouting, or at least ignore it. Clearly, we have a topic that is going to arouse emotions and make people angry. |

i am not opposed to the cursing, but it is in poor taste to direct it at an individual. it is a shame that some here choose to do so, but i haven't seen it become a big problem. most threads i have read are well-mannered discussion.
posts that serve no useful purpose (unless posted by joew, of course) should probably be ignored, moved to the hall of flames, or removed by moderators. |

| I used the name SoothSayer2 because I found that I wasn't logged in and the forum software needed a name which hadn't been used already and I couldn't be bothered to log in so I thought to myself, "Hey what name shall I use?" and then I thought "Wow, I need a name which everyone will know is really me" so I used Soothsayer2 and the system accepted it OK and everything was hunky dory so the post appeared as planned but with the name SoothSayer2 instead of my usual SoothSayer but sadly my plan didn't work and some people thought that I was a fake or something even 'tho it was really me all the time so I had to do a new post - this post - to clarify the situation so people knew that SoothSayer2 was really me, Soothsayer, and not any sort of fake because I wouldn't like to confuse the issue in any way, although I don't know why I bothered to post anything in the first place because everyone is very nasty here and they shout at each other and say bad things and think evil thoughts and don't know the difference between an M16 and M14 even they 'tho really want to shoot people and see the blood come out and play Mad Max instead of being nice and friendly and polite and have good manners and generally get on well with each other and discuss the various aspects of Peak Oil in a refined manner which would be great but I don't see it happening any day soon so I suppose that I will have to make allowances for their bad behaviour and simply ignore it in the hope that one post in ten or twenty contains an interesting, erudite, incisive or helpful fragment nestling in all the anger and hate and silliness which one can encounter in one's travels thorough this otherwise excellent forum. |
