Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

I don't see the connection between sentimentalism and patriotism.

This morning the headline on my local paper once again used the phrase, "The nation mourns..." The Fark it does. Nations do not mourn. People mourn. And I believe in giving a certain dignity to actual heartfelt mourning done by people, privately or however they choose.

nations are moved to irrational actions by manipulative sentimentalism.

I do not confuse the personal, private process of grieving with the sickening emotionalism shoved at me by corporate media profiteers goading me to feel something like outrage or kinship or righteousness, which are not true emotions.

I personally don't feel too much about 9/11, since you asked. I didn't know anyone directly involved. And i would think that anyone with any direct connection to the event should be personally offended if i came out weeping and crying and pulling my hair out and pretending to really have some connection beyond the general empathy I have for anyone from whatever country who has experienced some loss from war or any other political conflict, with "terrorism" on equal footing with anything else. which includes the 9/11 victims, and all of the families of Iraqi dead, and isrealis blown up on buses, and Palistinians trapped under bulldozers, and the goddamn branch davidian kids even, and the people in that train in spain, the vietnamese blown up by landmines, and on and on.

So to me, there's nothing particularly special about 9/11/06. Just another day in the life of the modern war state.

The display of American self-righteousness and exceptionalism following 9/11 to me was just gross. and to dredge up the increasingly distant echo of that ugly display on round numbered years has an extra distatefulness to it... like a hollowness and roteness that at least the original outpouring lacked. All of this memorializing sounds more like mocking to me. Like opportunistic empathy. It is our obligation to reconcile our emotions and move on so that we can engage in public discussion in a tempered and rational manner, like adults for chrissake.

Every person killed going to work that day is betrayed with each person, soldier or civilian, killed in Iraq or tortured in Guantanamo out of cynical profiteering or childish rage, and the insulting sentimentalism created around 9/11 is a tool for that betrayal.

yup, that's about it.

Sorry - But I must agree a bit with Aflurry. I have much more sympathy for the people living in poverty and starving to death - Oh and I do sympathize with the ture heroes, the guys who went to save the stranded people - But detest the rest of the firefighters in the country who try to capitilze off the price paid by those guys - Most firefighters never go near a buring skyscraper, much less have to risk anything.

Rich people that choose to live and work in a rat race like NY City have to do so with the understanding bad things happen where there are large amounts of people, that is true in any city. Where there are lot's of people there will be lots of bad things happening.

Pops, here's a bit of patriotism for you:

http://www.chimpeach.info

Immediately after 9/11 there was a brief period when people around the world were fully supportive of the US and united in their outrage against this terrorist act. But after Bushco thoroughly exploited 9/11 and went on an unabated Constitution-trashing crime spree, the world now sees the US in a different light. The US government is now perceived as a rogue state both at home and abroad.

"Suspects have been interrogated under torture and deprived of liberty without due process. Such methods are not only ineffective but undermine the ethical foundation of a free, democratic society"
- Thomas Hammarberg, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

See: European human rights commissioner blasts Bush for undermining ethical foundations of Democracy

Just doing my patriotic duty and demanding that Bush and his band of un-American outlaws are impeached and prosecuted for their crimes.

BushCo really seized 9/11 this year and milked it to the max, eh? A great dual performance between it and the BushCo handmaiden, the news media.

And the typical American crap-for-brains "proudly" lapped it up.

Wonder if the propaganda machine might, oh, just possibly, have been aiming at the upcoming mid-term elections, huh? Duh!

Next thing you know we'll be having Soviet-style parades down Pennsylvania Avenue on 9/11, complete with displays of mobile nuclear missiles.

No doubt about it.

It is becoming increasingly more difficult for the deceivers to continue with the same tired old lines. They are fully aware that people are fed up with all the quasi-fascist propaganda bull crap. Faux News ratings are taking a nosedive and the ABC 9/11 "propa-drama" was an expensive and embarrasing flop.

Fox News' ratings take a nosedive

ABC 9/11 "docudrama" trounced by football, ties documentary rerun

Although I'm with you gw, IMO the capacity of the American masses to absorb quasi-fascist propaganda bullshit is INFINITE.

HawkMan is the way, & the truth, & the light.

He who believes in HawkMan shall not persih, but have eternal life.

Claws make Laws!

Crush your enemies with your powerful "beak of justice", around the world. Chitter with joy as your nest-mates tremble with fear. You are the choosen ones... strong & fierce.

So join our great movement... under HawkMan's protective wing.

Spread to the 4 corners of the Earth & smite the weak... they are but food & nest lining.

Peck their weak eggs, and suck out the tender yolk.

How can they resist?

So sayeth HawkMan...

<Void where prohibited. Must be 18 years or older. Some restrictions may apply HawkMan (tm)>

I was sitting on my horse in the dressage ring with my daughter on her horse and the only Olympic rider for India on a horse he was working with.We were taking a lesson from the British woman who had taught him to ride who was visiting.Another friend pulled up to the ring and told us someone had flown a plane into one of the Towers.Like most folks at that moment we assumed it was a freak incident.God we were so innocent in those last few moments! Then we decided to head into the barn to see if there was anything on the radio about it.Then the other plane hit.The British lady who is a resident of the London area immediately said"Those damned bloody fanatic Arabs!" It was chilling.Until that moment it never occured to me anyone would purposefully do such a thing.I remember the plane that hit the Pentagon.I remember the brave souls on the plane in PA.My father fought 4 long years in Europe to keep an evil man from taking our freedom.Every male in my family since the 1700's have served this country's military.I am proud of that. What should of happened after 9/11 is so very far from the war for oil we are playing out now.All those souls. All that continuing pain for the living left behind. As a nation it haunts us.History will prove that it always will. The correct moment to react is so long gone.It makes those of us who love our country simply weep with sadness and frustration.9/11 is a private continuing moment of pain obviously not just for myself, but Pops and the rest of America as well.It doesn't matter what political beliefs you ascribe to.What matters is all of us sitting on this bit of land and remembering. Thanks for being the brave one to start this thread Pops.

Makes perfect sense to me. Cool

Following this logic, I suppose my ideas for a 911 response would be completely acceptable. Is that cool, or what?

For those who might still be wondering about Holmes, he's not evil, he's disturbed. His rants sound exactly like what occurs in the mixed-mood phase of bipolar disorder, where mood is low and energy level is high. This phase can last for months or even years depending on how fast an individual cycles through the various phases.

Problem is, this is also a case of "danger to self or others." People in this state are also well known to commit "suicide by cop," i.e. deliberately threatening a cop with plausible serious harm, and getting shot as a result.

I'm not being sarcastic, this stuff is for real. And it can take on any available content, i.e. from a major historic event to a day's news story to a phone call with a friend or family member, etc. etc.

Holmes, listen up: You need to get treatment. And if you don't like doctors, then you can treat it yourself with one or two small daily doses of marijuana and one or two moderately-large daily doses of fish lever oil, and yes I'm serious about that. It may take a while for these things to take effect, during which time you should stay home as much as possible for your own safety.

---

Re. American exceptionalism: I see this in a more pragmatic sense. We haven't been attacked on our own ground very often throughout our history because we have two oceans to protect us. And going to war isn't about crusades or spreading democracy in the Middle East, it's about the simple matter of taking out whoever is responsible for the attack so they can't do it again.

I would have far preferred a more law-enforcement-oriented approach to this. But the Taliban weren't about to hand over Al Qaeda, and that makes them co-responsible, therefore we have to treat them as a party to the attack.

The saddest part is how the Regime has totally destroyed the nearly limitless good will that existed among almost all nations at that point, botched almost every response it has made, and used this thing as an excuse for a limitless exercise in tyranny.
