Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

As the indigenous extraction rate of natural gas has declined, tipping the UK from net exporter to net importer, prices have unsurprisingly risen. This gas price rise, coupled with the lower than expected cost of carbon emission under the EU carbon trading scheme, caused a dramatic shift away from gas and towards coal for electricity generation last winter.

Winter 2005/06 Coal generated 89.62TWh (+15.1%)
Winter 2005/06 Gas generated 64.60 TWh (-14.7%)

Representing 7.7% increased CO2 emissions or an additional 7.3 million tonnes.

The point isn't so much that more coal = more CO2 but rather at this time of heightened CO2 awareness (the UK media is full of it), there was a significant increase in coal burn with the associated CO2 emissions. This fact went unreported in the media.

Well, I've always considered LNG to be an unreliable energy source. Especially when a good deal of it is in the hands of people we would rather not be friends with.
