What if they are capitalist?  they'll suck us dry in return for the technology we need. On the other hand we don't have much to lose. My guess is that they will do us an offer we can't refuse right around when the worlds economies are collapsing and the climate will begin wreaking havoc.

We would naturally mine resources and accumulate large amounts of the shiniest metals, nasty chemicals etc etc...

I predict my own "Fastwalker Effect". When we are no longer able to depend on our cars, we will get in the habit of walking quickly in order to cover the long distances between all the places we need to go or just reach the few and far between suburban transit stops.
Since I started to take the bus to work I've gotten in the habit of walking the 2.5 miles each way that the bus doesn't cover pretty fast.

Typical...the saved just in time approach to crisis planning. Call me skeptical or mayb eits just my tinfoil hat is preventing alien "hope" brainwashing, but I dont think we'll wiggle out of this predicament.
