I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Sometimes just disturbing young plants will be enough to weaken them and since the wheat would just be sprouting with no where to set true roots, you may get away with little labour.

My yard is actually too big to do that, I think, if you mean disturbing each plant individually. Not that anyone is lying awake at night wondering about this, but the hay looks to have stopped growing now at about 4 inches tall and is starting to dry out. So long as it doesn't seed - which I imagine it won't being so immature - I think it may just fade away on it's own. What a relief. Let the dieoff begin!
