Fuel Shortage Hits Nepal's Capital
By BINAJ GURUBACHARYA – 22 hours ago
KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — A shortage of fuel in Nepal prompted by strikes and protests in the south forced the shutdown of much of the capital's public transportation system Wednesday, industry officials said.
More than 80 percent of Katmandu's buses, vans and trucks remained parked because authorities were unable to buy diesel and gasoline to run them, said Sharad Sitaula of the Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs Association.
"We are facing a major crisis in our business. We have no income and are unable to pay our drivers and staff. If this continues, many of us will have to shut down our business," Sitaula said.
Hundreds of vehicles, meanwhile, lined up outside a handful of service stations selling rationed fuel in Katmandu, and workers dependent on public transport were forced to walk or stay at home.

"Motorists have been doing what we have been recommending this week and filling up early for Easter," Motor Trade Association deputy executive director Dennis Boldock said this morning.
"This has led to some service stations running low of certain types of fuel.
"If people go into service stations and find the type of fuel they want is not available they should go to another service station
Shortage of coal in India is an issue, and needs to be addressed to bridge the demand-supply gap in the power industry,” said an official spokesperson for Tata Power Company.
“But Tata Power’s Trombay facility is based on imported coal from Indonesia and will not be affected due to this estimated shortage,” the official added.

China's leaders are facing renewed pressure over shortfalls in diesel and gasoline, with lines growing at filling stations in major cities Monday as the gap widens between international crude oil values and centrally controlled fuel prices.
Apparently, they've had the military take over the gas stations, to prevent smuggling and prevent gas shortages? _________________ "The problems of today will not be solved by the same thinking that produced the problems in the first place." - Albert Einstein
