Anybody want to take a guess at how long this financial system can last with oil at $120.00 + ? 12 months is my guess, before you see failure at many levels.

I am in complete agreement Armageddon. About a year from now we will begin to see the entire economic system unraveling before our eyes. However, I also think that within 6-8 months the downward spiral will start to become so blatant that social unrest may preempt financial collapse.

So gas goes to $6 gal and food price increases a lot more, it will still be business as usual, at least in the 1st/ 2cd rings burbs around here. We will still see all kinds of SUV's and trucks tool'en around as normal.

Sorry if this is a distraction to this tracking thread, mods feel free to move it.

I had a friendly conversation with a rather well-dressed middle aged female yesterday morning at the gas pump, out here in suburbia. After chatting her up a bit, complimenting her on her fragrance, thus getting her to give me a shy smile, we started talking about the gas prices.

I made some comment to the effect that the gas price is high because it can be. We are still driving even though the price is high. I asked her "at what gas price would you quit driving" and she just shook her head. "I have to drive everywhere. I drive to work, I drive to shop, I will keep driving no matter how high the price gets"

There you have it.

Just think of those CC companies. No moola for gas - charge it until the card is cut-off due to non-payment.

MSNBC says 126.21 for an intraday record, again.

Depending on which news outlet you choose, it could be speculation, weak dollar, or supply concerns. And even that changes by the hour within the same outlets...

Well, I was gonna quote myself and say Whew, I feel better oil is back down to 125.51 as I type, but then MSNBC says oil traders expect 140-150 by next Thursday or so...

I gotta get up and work now, but anybody know why next Thursday may be significant. I missed that.

That's going to put a crimp in summer travel.
I wonder how much of an effect (affect?) this will have on other areas of the economy if people don't buy as much extra gas wanted for summer travel?
