Aren't you the wishy washy one. If you are out there, in the woods, Heineken, all alone, with only us to to talk to, then I can perfectly understand why you are talking with us. I don't enjoy a wide circle of friends, as much as I would like to. I'm sociable by nature. My social contacts could be renewed if I just picked up the phone. But my personal disabilities have pretty much ruled the roost and not to my liking. But I do like this forum.

You and I are somewhat limited to text based communication for a variety of health reasons, PMS. Fortunately I'm somewhat introverted, so it doesn't bother me.

Returning to the negativity theme. There's no such thing as a negative emotion. Anger and sadness are part of the emotional tableau, all necessary for survival and to give texture and substance to what would otherwise be a rather tepidly cheery existence.

I'm apalled by the notion that fear, anger and sadness must always be approached as symptoms of some underlying disorder. They often seem to be a natural and healthy response to a morally depraved culture and sick world. Anyone who is well integrated and has adjusted themselves to the crap going on around them needs their head examined.

Negativity is different. This seems to be an outlook that filters all of reality through a dark lens, languishing in the dark, or worse, the void. Most people on this forum actually don't strike me as being profoundly negative, by nature, just reacting to an ugly set of circumstances.

Ditto for you guys. It's very unlikely I'll ever actually meet any of you, but anonymous "stage" names like pstarr, threadbear, Ludi, Shanny, coyote, and some others are permanently emblazoned on my brain as some of the really important people in my life. (PMS you freak, I haven't quite decided about you yet . . . just kidding.)

And Lord knows we all have disabilities of one sort or another. Because of a peripheral nerve disease (RSD), I lived without the use of my arms for an entire year, and in constant severe pain, and with no assurance that I'd ever recover. So I have some notion of what a permanent physical disability must be like.

My arms are all better now, miraculously, but I'm left with with the full slew of my mental and emotional difficulties.

I often think there are many people here on the board who exhibit the above kind of negativity, but, like I say, this ay be my personal interpretation of what they're saying.

I agree with your comment that the world situation engenders, or should engender, feelings of anger, sadness, and frustration. It's the deliberate wallowing in those feelings that this thread is about. There's certainly reason to be angry and sad, but, for me, wallowing in it is counterproductive.

We're drifting off topic. Ludi doesn't approve of that. Oh, but I do love to laugh. But in honor of her topic, negativity is shite. I hate it. Realism is shite too, and I hate that even more. What I like is the folks who say that Peak Oil isn't coming for another 25 years. Yeah! That's what I want to hear.

Negativity is not important to me, the truth is. Sadly, the truth its pretty negative, so it's important to me by default it seems.

Wishing you all the best for the coming months,

Res.

Did you have to remind me? It's like a tooth ache that won't go away. I'm going to watch some movies and try to escape, for a little while. My son gave me the whole second season of Rome. Man that's some entertainment.

Mwahhgggh. Is there anyone here that DOESN'T have a disability/difference of some sort??? (I have one too if you really need to have a mutual hugging-session.)

Maybe it seems more extreme than it actually is because many of the subjects we talk about on this board are so serious and depressing, simply by nature of the topic at hand. I don't spend most of my time off the forums thinking about dieoff, police states and such, even though I talk a lot about them on here. As far as why I bother to continue talking about those topics here, well, they are of concern, and there aren't too many folks in my daily life I can talk about them with. But I don't think I'm wallowing in negativity, though I have done so at times in my life. It's probably hard to know for certain in each case since many aspects of face to face communication are missing on message boards.

Also, for most people it's helpful to have our feelings validated and converse with others who don't think we're nuts, even if there's no pragmatic value in the conversation. And just having that done once won't fill that need forever, it's a recurring need as we have to muddle through all the denial and rejection we encounter out there in the world. So the virtual reflective listening we do for each other may serve a good purpose beyond just bitching and moaning, by helping us cope with reality. Does that make sense?

Thank you, that is mutual.

So, let's discuss negativity and what it does for you, how it makes you feel better or whatever benefit you derive from it. Do you feel it helps you personally, or does it help others? Is it just a reflex or is it an intentional philosophy?...

I avoid negativity just like I've avoided this thread for the last two weeks.

I still wallow in it on a regular basis but I usually put a different label on it so it tastes better.

Which brings me back to avoiding this thread: doing so makes me feel like I'm winning!

I suppose in my case much of it is driven by reflex and my repackaging is intentional. (since I see it, and continue to do so, I must mean to . . . simple)
