Hoarding is exactly what the government is doing right now by filling the SPR, and frankly it's the best thing that could happen. It drives prices up. High prices encourage demand destruction. They also finance new well development. The hoarded oil gives us a buffer to fall back on once shortages become more prevalent. High prices are what we need in order to adapt to what's coming, and the sooner they happen, the better.

I just read the Heinberg's new book I ordered from the british Amazon. This book is not for beginners in peak oil matters. It would be good to have read one introductry book peak oil and global warming before starting to read this book or at least have spent some time reading peakoil.com forums before reading this book because there might be some confusion what is he talking about. The book doesn't tell one by one about depletion of oil, water coal etc, but it is a compilation of essays about various things about theoretical armageddon, about how we humans are dependent of machines and how ugly modern factory made products are compared to old handmade stuff. At the end of the book there's a chapter of a letter from the future. There's alot of doomer porn in there, how things have gone bad in the future.
One of my favourite lines from the book:
”The machines themselves have become so sophisticated, their services so seductive, that they are equivalent to magic. Few people fully understand the inner workings of any given tool, and different tools require their unique teams of specialists for their design and repair. But what's more important, in the process of becoming dependent upon them, we have become almost a different species as compared to our ancestors.”
This is a good book if you wish there would be more peak oil theories in the peak oil discussion forum at this site. This book offers some.

Marx referred to this as the alienation of man...from his labour, himself, nature and those around him. _________________ Bugger me, I hear oil's runnin out mate!

The edition of the book published by Clairview has been out of stock for awhile in british Amazon. Good thing I preordered the book in time so I got it. I wonder what's going on? Have they printed too few copies?
