NYMEX Crude Oil (Light) ........................121.20 5.64 NYMEX NYH RBOB Gasoline (Globex) ...... 3.0421 .1318

Don’t worry, just a little bump - $70 is just around the corner. Short traders just keep making those margin calls, mortgage the house if you have to. Fortunes await you! PO is for pansies and doomers. At $70 short some more ..... it is going back to $22 .... the world is awash with oil ........ reality has nothing to do with it, its all in those charts!!!!!!!!!!

No poll. Thought about starting a topic on why we can't make multiple selections on polls too.

Well? Why? To learn something? To teach? To keep abreast of developments? To keep others from deluding themselves? To delude them? To bring oneself comfort? To cause pain?

All of the above?

Or to fiddle about while the fire gets closer?

I noticed that quote about how things are so bleak we could just as well be discussing what to do as actually doing anything to prepare. That's some heavy duty rationalization.

Have thought about just reading the headlines and just ignoring the actual discussion. Or trying to, anyway. Certainly would save some time that way. And every week I see something that just stings - this week it was that photo of a helicopter servicing a wind turbine. Are these people Fark' morons?

By "why are you here?", I assume you are asking why we are here at Peakoil.com rather than the broader existential question, right?

Though, on thinking about it, I guess my answer in either case would be, "why not?"

Correctomundo. Didn't think of the broader existential frame, ala Golem.

Cogito, ergo "why not?" Sounds like something my namesake would say!

Well, what do you get out of coming here, instead of working on your compost heap or reloading ammo? I outlined a bunch of reasons above. Or do Mods make great pay?

I already have all the ammo I will ever need and my compost heap is basically resting for the winter. So to avoid the cold, I spend time here at PO.com.

Choosing from your list, I would say that I come here to keep abreast of developments. I serve as a mod in hopes of helping members here treat each other as decently as they can (sorry, Jack Smile ).

The "pay" is not an incentive. Razz

Hoping for some high-5's as everything comes down around my ears, prior to the zombies coming through the door anyway.

Was kinda hopeful for this summer and a grid collapse, based on RocMans summer time assertions. I guess the wait continues...

Because I'm a loser with no life. And because of the power... the raw, unadulterated POWER!!! 5bullwhip

Seriously, I first came here to learn, and to get emotional support while I was in my freak out phase the first year after I learned the world was not as I thought. Then it became a place to get relevant information quickly, and to share prepping ideas. Then I developed relationships with some members, and was offered a moderator job which I enjoyed most of the time. I enjoy the interaction with my cyber-friends, being kept up to date with all the relevant news, getting ideas from the Planning forum, and facilitating the administration of this web site.

At first I was in a freak-out mode to and looking around the web for some insight.

After a spell I became even more convinced of the inevitability of PO if of very little else and so gradually left the barrel counting and preaching of the concept to others.

Being a doer at heart I have long been concerned about our general trend (in the US at least) toward being nothing more than earners/consumers and hoped to spark a little discussion of practical matters.

After that I have tried to incite some to action and calm some others; pointed to resources and read other’s pointing, shared my experiences and learned from others’.

Of course a good debate is fun, the occasional thanks is nice and being a graybeard here has it’s benefits too.

More than that is talking with people I would never have had the chance to meet, keeping my head exercised enough to hold up my cap and the ability to point to a few threads I think my friends and relatives should read when they seem ready - which is happening lately.

But best of all is having tapped out a sort of journal recorded out there somewhere for my kids to read at some point – which I would never have done without the interaction.

Oh and like Turtle, having something to do when it is too cold to go outside (or too hot or too much work or too mundane or too drunk…)

I'm here in part because many around here view the lives we lead, and the world in general, as I do.

I'm tribally inclined without the benefit of a real life example, in the flesh, surrounding me. This place helps meet this need--in part--although it's too synthetic to do any real, lasting good.

Life would be so much more interesting if my hood had the likes of a NEOPO, a roccman, a MonteQuest, a Ludi, a Mr Bill, a threadbear, a MMasters, a Lokutus, a RogerHB, a DantesPeak, a Shannymara, Aaron, and even a golem Smile , et al..............................

I am 25 years old and work in the oil and gas business. If I live a full life then I believe some really interesting things are going to happen with peak oil and other harsh realities the US/world will face.

Peak oil is something the world does not understand but even more scary is the average oil professional doesnt understand. Our main focus is to complete the next well to profit our company whether big or small. The bigger picture is often missed because we have to focus on smaller projects of our own.

I dont want to be caught off guard when oil peaks and believe educating myself through you all is extremely important.

I'll have to agree with firestarter - I'm very tribal myself - and I can think of exactly only one other person near me who takes any of this seriously. And, like Pops, Shanny, and Ludi, I'm also a do-er, and love to share info and learn from others. It helps to feel that there are others out there who take this seriously, even if I'll never meet them in person. Someday when the grid collapses, at least I'll have the memories of these conversations and know we're not completely alone Smile.
