Here close to Stockholm, Sweden, like neighboring Finland and Estonia, we have had a depression warm Christmas holiday. For a while before Christmas (later then usual) we had a period of below freezing and clear nights, so our nearest lake froze with 11 cm wonderful skating ice, which we enjoyed on Dec 23. The same day the warm weather returned - we have had around +4C for almost a week with heavy clouds and some rain - everything has melted away. It is very rare for lake ice to melt away again this time of the year.
In short - a lot warmer than usual.

The big story of the next 7 days will be COLD AIR. That cold air is going to make an appearance in SOUTH FLORIDA Should be fun to watch the obs out of that area of the world. GFS (6z) (American weather model) is showing a low of 43F in Miami!
Right out of the bowels of the Arctic Vortex. After this moves out get ready for a NICE MILD weather regime (for us up here). _________________ Clothing should be optional. |

Well then, the "normal" weather continues here in Estonia- outside it feels as though someone has replaced our Sun with a 40w bulb yet the current temperature is +7 degrees C.
This is indeed the first year that I remember being like this. |

Well...after this cold shot moves through this next week, get ready for heat! The warm air is coming back for us in the middle and for the east. Really hope i can melt back some of my glacier at my house. I need room! We've just had the 5th snowiest December since 1893...
Thats about 45F in Estonia. Thats at about 59N... I'm sitting at just over 40N here... Thats pretty warm, but i'm guessing the Baltic Sea is keeping you mild? Let the Gulf Stream shut down and watch as your climate turns into one similar to N. Canada!
Looks like the Sierra Nevada in California will get some healthy snowfalls soon. That should keep the crops coming for at least another growing season! _________________ Clothing should be optional. |

It was beautiful here today, 50F for the high. It's forecasted the same tomorrow. _________________ Conservation is conservative

Big cold shot for most of the country and then VERY MILD weather takes over a number of us. Could see some record highs? NWS out of Green Bay, WI is mentioning temps possibly in the 50's... thats major warm, considering the amount of snowfall on the ground.
What does the rest of the winter hold?
Here is a max temp chart for Europe. Looks like east Europe is chilly, while Britain, France enjoy some nice mild temps. North Africa looks nice this time of year!
That 19C down in Italy looks awfully inviting (66F). _________________ Clothing should be optional. |

Miami should easily drop down to 40F or so overnight. This will be some of the coldest air down there since 2003 or maybe even further back then that. You can see by this image the cold air and what happens when it crosses the warm waters of the gulf/Atlantic...
Warm up for Frank is upcoming. Could see 50F? Currently it is below 0F outside...brr... _________________ Clothing should be optional. |

Good day from Pheba, from the farm:
Yesterday, Sunday, January 6, 2008, a high temperature of 74 degrees here on the farm. Broke all existing records.
yesterday morning my dog was bit on the face by a snake.
A snake!!! In January!!!. In mid-Missouri!!!
Today we had a severe thunderstorm come through. yes, a thunderstorm in January. I walked outside our back door after the storm passed, and in January in Mid-Missouri I saw a rainbow.
Yes, a rainbow.
When I went to work this morning everybody was talking about how beautiful it was outside and how they wished it would stay that warm.
We are so doomed.
Pheba. |

We have not really had a winter here in the South East of England yet, very little ground frost other than some heavy fog just before christmas. We had a very poor summer as well. Actualy we have kind of had a year long autumn that has had its warmer bit in June and its colder bit in December.
Today cycling into work I had to take my jacket of I was sweating so much. In January for gods sakes. |

70 degrees F here today and yesterday. A gradual cooldown coming (and a little rain). But still no real winter like we used to have, despite a December that had some surprisingly chilly nights.
I remember how, 20 and 30 years ago, we almost always had snow on the ground this time of year. Sometimes it hung around for weeks.
Snow at this latitude and longitude is a melting memory. _________________ "Actually, humans died out long ago."

It's been mild here on the Nez Perce nation. Warmer than last winter with highs in the 35 to 45 F range and nights near 30.November and December saw above average rainfall which was good.Down in our valley we're at 1000 ft. Up on the plains, at 2500 ft, it is somewhat cooler and the snow is still on the ground. _________________ "Modern Agriculture is the use of land to convert petroleum into food."

11°C in Paris, that looks like fall, not winter. This year, we had a winter which lasted 2 weeks back in december. Not any snow, some rain.

Less than average snow except in the central rockies - but its not melting - very cold December and still persistent cold here in the "desert southwest"
