Tough time for Georgia...
Could you give some background on that situation? _________________ "So while you sit and whistle Dixie with your money and your power.

I don't care how you want to spin it, no one wins a nuclear war. MAD still applies.
Moreover, there is no such thing as a "small scale" nuclear war.
I don't consider the use of nukes as a possibility. Our leaders are far too This World oriented to kill themselves for "glory".
North Korea is a possible exception to that rule...
There is a distinct possibility of nuclear detonations in the form of bunker busting nukes, without risk of any kind of nuclear response. MAD does NOT apply, in that case.
Russia doesn't have a preemptive nuclear strike doctrine, as far as I know. If they did, they would have nuked the US during Nixon's years in office, as he taunted them mercilessly, forcing them to go on nuclear alert several times.

I wouldn't call the US blowing up a uranium processing facility in Iran a "nuclear war".
In order for their to be a nuclear war, both countries have to actually have nuclear weapons.
And as we all know, Iran does not have nuclear weapons, nor are they building nuclear weapons. _________________ "www.peakoil.com is the Myspace of the Apocalypse."

"Russia does not intend to abandon fully its mine weapons," Commander of the Russian Engineer Troops Colonel-General Nikolai Serdtsev said on Wednesday.
"Our tanks are not based near the borders with other countries, but the NATO states are approaching our borders. Therefore, those who would like to go on a free march to Moscow should know that some mines, which were planted at various directions, would hamper their triumphant march," the general said.

Really? I think it's nothing more than a warning to the US that Russia will not tolerate any more Nato expansionist activity. And as others have said, it doesn't differ any from the continual US threats. I think that Russia will be cowed into fearing an attack on Georgia now and will have to just accept the expansion which is the status quo. It is encouraging to hear what appears to be Russia drawing a line in the sand. Many other countries may see this as a good time to draw the line against the US as they are getting into hot water themselves. Surely Iran is not sitting back and taking it as much as they would be in other circumstances.

Is Bush nuts enough to think we can invade Russia and win? _________________ Time to recognize there are only two classes of people; those that stole the wealth of America and those that got fleeced.

Don't worry, the US doesn't invade nuclear armed countries. Slow encroachment on the former Soviet territories is ensured though because the US is looking ahead to the time when it will need more oil than even the ME has. I think the next president will take a more laid back approach and start to understand that what needs to be accomplished can take a little longer. Too many countries are getting their backs up now and that's not working as well as a little diplomacy more like the encroachment efforts of the US in the Stans.

The Russians have very good reason to be concerned about being invaded. Like clockwork (or calendar work), every few generations some nation tries... and fails. The list of nations whose soldiers have died invading or 'militarily intervening' is very long and includes the USA, Japan, China, Germany, France, as well as many others.
Russia has always expected periodic attacks... and have always (eventually) won. The situation today is basically the same. _________________ Everything is Impermanent. Shakyamuni Buddha
