Don’t worry, just a little bump - $70 is just around the corner. Short traders just keep making those margin calls, mortgage the house if you have to. Fortunes await you! PO is for pansies and doomers. At $70 short some more ..... it is going back to $22 .... the world is awash with oil ........ reality has nothing to do with it, its all in those charts!!!!!!!!!!
My dear friends,
I had heard about this 'rapture' stuff before and had always assumed it was very fringe- but it looks like I was wrong.
Now one of my favorite reporters is retiring at 82 and leaves us with some chilling words about our current state of affairs.
Please take some time to read this.

On Wednesday, December 1, 2004, the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School presented its fourth annual Global Environment Citizen Award to Bill Moyers. Here are a couple of quotes from that speech. For the full text, see the link below.
Quote:
So what does this mean for public policy and the environment? Go to Grist to read a remarkable work of reporting by the journalist, Glenn Scherer - 'the road to environmental apocalypse. Read it and you will see how millions of Christian fundamentalists may believe that environmental destruction is not only to be disregarded but actually welcomed - even hastened - as a sign of the coming apocalypse.
Quote:
Why care about the earth when the droughts, floods, famine and pestilence brought by ecological collapse are signs of the apocalypse foretold in the Bible? Why care about global climate change when you and yours will be rescued in the rapture? And why care about converting from oil to solar when the same God who performed the miracle of the loaves and fishes can whip up a few billion barrels of light crude with a word?"
The following letter was at one time posted on the Bob Jones University website, but not no more: They got a lot of flak over it. I saved a copy for posterity. This is all scary business.
November 3, 2004
President George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
The media tells us that you have received the largest number of popular votes of any president in America's history. Congratulations!
In your re-election, God has graciously granted America--though she doesn't deserve it--a reprieve from the agenda of paganism. You have been given a mandate. We the people expect your voice to be like the clear and certain sound of a trumpet. Because you seek the Lord daily, we who know the Lord will follow that kind of voice eagerly.
Don't equivocate. Put your agenda on the front burner and let it boil. You owe the liberals nothing. They despise you because they despise your Christ. Honor the Lord, and He will honor you.
Had your opponent won, I would have still given thanks, because the Bible says I must (I Thessalonians 5:1. It would have been hard, but because the Lord lifts up whom He will and pulls down whom He will, I would have done it. It is easy to rejoice today, because Christ has allowed you to be His servant in this nation for another presidential term. Undoubtedly, you will have opportunity to appoint many conservative judges and exercise forceful leadership with the Congress in passing legislation that is defined by biblical norm regarding the family, sexuality, sanctity of life, religious freedom, freedom of speech, and limited government. You have four years--a brief time only--to leave an imprint for righteousness upon this nation that brings with it the blessings of Almighty God.
Christ said, "If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my father honour" (John 12:26).
The student body, faculty, and staff at Bob Jones University commit ourselves to pray for you--that you would do right and honor the Savior. Pull out all the stops and make a difference. If you have weaklings around you who do not share your biblical values, shed yourself of them. Conservative Americans would love to see one president who doesn't care whether he is liked, but cares infinitely that he does right.
Best wishes.
Sincerely your friend,
Bob Jones III

Wow! I didn't know religious extremism in America was that Fark up! It looks like George Bush II is the man for the job, now I understand what he meant when he said he's a man of convictions!

i am usealy a man of reason but from what i learned of these people. they are beyond reason...
One thing you can be sure of.Rapture is not in the white houses' plan. You can never believe a rich man wants the world to end, thats for the poor and starving. If your on top of the heap the last thing you want is the heap to be gone. They desire to be kings someday, like olden times. JMO
That sounds very familiar with me. Back in in august / september 2001 the white house didn´t wory about possible terrorist attack that could be conducted via hijacked aircrafts.... But Condy will know where to set the priorities - in a great country like the USA you can´t care about every problem ahead...

i'm a firm believer in the Second Coming, i'm Catholic. I don't believe any of these silly conspiracy theories about 'neo-cons' though. All a bunch of wishy washy liberal nonsense.
i almost wish i didn't know about peak oil because i have to put up with reading lots of posts from ultra left wing liberals who, ironically, are amongst the most intolerant of other views in the world.

You should avoid labelling people, but offer rational and constructive counter arguments if you disagree. Unfornuately for you, PO issues were first addressed mostly by so called "liberals". I don't know exactly why, maybe because they have a less distorted view of real life. There are plenty of other web sites where world issues are analysed under the light of the bible.

Haven't you just labelled anyone who isn't a liberal 'distorted'?
Anyway, who cares who first addressed PO? If it was first addressed by a conservative, would that bother you? I dont care to be honest.
What i was getting at in my post above was that Liberals like to think they are open minded etc., but they are amongs the most closed minded people on earth as soon as you disagree with their viewpoint. Liberals are as closed minded as anyone - that was my point.

You're right , I guess I have to work on myself too!

I think being narrow minded or closed minded is a frequent default of anybody having strong views or opinions. I'm personnally open to any opnion or viewpoints as long as they are based on constructive arguments and are the product of some kind of rational and factual analysis. Intelectual honesty is a prerequisite to any constructive discussion, neons or liberals, I don't care.

If you really believe in Christianity, then you believe that we are close to the end of times. This is the most central theme in Christianity and it has always been that way. Apostle Peter honed that message to sell the religion. It's a fear mongering sales pitch - the end is near, repent or burn in hell for all eternity. Since the end is near, practical issues have little relevance. Moral issues are the only things that matter.
Having been raised in a devout Christian family and gone to my share of Christian summer camps, I can speak with authority on this issue. During my teens, I was constantly confronted with wacko Christians trying to produce a religious experience in me. Time was always of the essence because when you die, there are no more opportunities to be saved. The problem is that I am an evil scientific type who just wouldn't shut up and get with the program. I was regarded as a black sheep in my church.
Christians are fatalists who believe the future is predetermined. They can be very dangerous when placed in positions of power because of this. On the positive side, Christians can be idealists, willing to help the downtrodden for the simple reason that it is the thing to do. There don't seem to be many of the latter these days.

Hardly nonsense, my friend. I have a pretty good rep around here. I bet if you read my book, Madmen at the Helm, you would come away with your eyes a lot more open about the neocons. Available in PDF format. Send a pm with an e-addy.
