In any case, I'm up to my eyeballs with student debt, and at this point with a bit more than 2 months left in my degree, am just trying to limit the damage. Taking a girl out to dinner at a 'nice' restaurant, and incurring the expenses there seem to be in the early phase of a relationship would be adding to my long term debt burden... with a minor possibility of some short term benefit.
Seems to me that you need to find a girl who doesn't need to be taken out to a 'nice' restaurant, if you want to find a good post-Peak Oil partner...

Definitely! I'm planning on getting involved in the kinds of organizations and activities where I should be able to meet more like-minded members of the opposite sex... once I move to Ottawa where I'll be working after graduation.

To be honest, I'm getting so tired of girls who only seeks the status quo. Regardless of various scenarios, I think we can all agree that major changes are coming down the pipeline. Drastic changes that would require significant adaptations on our part, if we are to thrive in the future. The trouble is, I keep attracting women who only seeks a successful man under the current paradigm. And it doesn't help that I'm currently fairly well-off financially.
Do what my husband did. When I met him he had holes in shoes, drove an ancient car and lived in a humble man cave. He was like a poor bear with furniture. Sure had me fooled. It wasn't until the day we got engaged that I found out he was fiscally very fit.

Be a bum.
Errg...I pretty much do that when I get the chance. Unfortunately, a great deal of my work gives off this driven/materialistic vibe. And I'm kind of workaholic and likes to talk about it. The other thing is that I prefer, at least superficially, the attractive, well maintained girls. Which leads me to a world of trouble...but whatever.

My date bailed out on me tonight. I miss my ex-girlfriend. It feels mighty lonely right now. Anyone else in the same boat?
Not me. I drank a six pack of beer and watched some porn. I was not lonely at all. Then again I've always been a loner and I've always prefered masterbating. Besides VD is just another bs holiday invented to sell shitty merchandise and lame ass hallmark cards. If not having to buy lame merchandise means not getting laid, then i consider it a bargain.
