Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

About 3 weeks ago I got offered a really great job, and I decided to take it. So our plans have been turned upside down temporarily. We are in the process of finding a new piece of property in Oklahoma. We will keep our place in Texas, though. This job is fairly secure even in a declining economy, and even if it falls through we will still be in a good place as far as our criteria for post peak location. Possibly better, due to the large number of friends and connections we have in this area.

We were lucky in that some very dear friends offered to keep our goats for us while we are in transition. We sold our chickens, but as soon as we have a new address we will order some new chicks. We're having to shell out some money for the move (no relocation benefits), but my salary will more than offset that since before I wasn't generating income. We are still able to keep our son home with us (I would not work if he had to be in day care) since my husband has a home business and my work hours are flexible. Smile

I have a lot more to say about this, the factors that went into the decision as related to peak oil, and what we've learned so far from our mistakes and successes, but I'll leave it at that for now because I'm tired.

Best wishes, Shannymara! I think Oklahoma's a nicer place to be anyway...

Don't forget moving expenses are a tax deduction.

Wow! Big changes are quite exciting, aren't they?

If you're buying property don't forget to plant some fruit trees immediately. I mean before you do anything else. Plant lots of them.

Let me know what part you're looking at - my parents live in south central OK, near the Arbuckles.

Good luck!! I can't imagine moving again! Last time (19 years ago) we only moved 100 miles or so, took half a dozen big U-Hauls with trailers, and we still aren't unpacked. Never again (I hope).

Thanks, everyone! Smile We're going to be in the Norman area. I lived here for years and graduated from OU, so it feels almost as much like home to me as Texas.

Eastbay, we're looking for places with established nut trees. Smile
