Lol...there's one sucker born every minute.
Do you reckon that security standards for a reactor on every block are going to be this rigorous or are capable of being this rigorous.
First off, it's a steel box, probably built like a safe, a hundred feet underground. As security standards go, that ain't too bad. Anyone who has the ability to blow up 100ft of dirt below them can do a lot more than target a reactor that'll ultimately leave a bit of nuclear material under 100ft of dirt. The blast up top would probably kill more than breaching the reactor would.

For fcuk sake man, we can't even protect our planet!
Can't. We ain't even trying! In fact, given our behavior, we're trying to destroy ourselves, and other species, pretty quickly! We don't give two shits about saving anything.

Going by our performance history to date, I reckon humanity should steer well clear of this crap. We're not up to it pal.
Performance history? Nuclear power has been one of the safest and least polluting so far. This is even safer, since it removes the human element, can automatically shut-down if there's a problem, and sits under a hundred feet of dirt in a steel case. The only thing our performance history has shown is that we have no aversion to demonstrably dangerous ways of doing things, and are dumb enough to believe it when people tell us that demonstrably safer alternatives are actually more dangerous.
I can't be bothered arguing with you. Go lobby for these piles of crap technology and then deal with the consequences of proliferating bullshit!
No doubt America will be policing who may or may not have this technology and we'll be back to endless squabbles and threats of devastating war. Duh! _________________ Bugger me, I hear oil's runnin out mate!

Um... yeah no. There won't be proliferation from sealed reactors that are only refilled at the factory every thirty years or so. Breaching the reactor would be hard enough in most places, and the only one set for operation is in Alaska, where the ground is frozen solid most of the year.
That being said, for most states, it appears that nuclear proliferation isn't too bad. Other states respect their boundaries, large superpowers like the US don't invade/occupy their country, etc... Before nuclear weapons we had a world war every couple decades. Now, the most we see are regional conflicts and/or proxy wars. Not to say that war is a good thing, but with nuclear weapons other countries seem much more polite to the owner.
In any event, we've got the most to worry about from what may have gotten out of the USSR and is in the hands of small groups after it fell, not small sealed reactors that may be 100ft under the frozen tundra IMO. _________________

that's a lot of technology for 200 kilowatts. that's barely enough for 10 'merican homes. If you added the electric bills for ten homes together for 30 years, you might get - what, about $100,000? That might not even dig the hole. Who's gonna buy the nuke?
I know, homes don't use 20 kw all the time bla bla bla. It's got to handle the peak load. That's summer airconditioning, electric water heat, a load in the dryer, and don't forget the plug-in hybrid
It's an engineers wet dream. Totally impractical in the face of conservation and efficiency. _________________ Posted from a Solar/Pedal Powered Computer

Not fer it's intended location it ain't.

This scarcity of fuel makes energy very expensive for area residents. The price of electricity is dictated by the price of fuel oil, $2.45/gal = $0.35/kWh(2004), $4.25/gal = $0.68/kWh(2006).

Hello Mr SolarDave? It's Joe from Toshiba. I have some good news and some bad news.
You know that NeighborNukr9000 we installed last year? Well, it's been recalled. Seems there is a minor problem with neutron embrittlement in the primary-side molten lithium cooling loop - but hey, that's all just technical mumbo-jumbo!
The good news is, you get a brand new NeighborNuker10000 on us! All we have to do is dig that old sucker back up again, which we were planning to do anyway in 29 more years (you didn't think we were just going to leave it down there, did you?).
So we are going to need to move your house. Not to worry, we will put it back when we are done.
To ease the sting a bit, we have rented you this FEMA trailer to put on the job site, and we think you might even have a view all the way to the bottom of the hole!
We also have a gift basket for you, including wonderful products from all the local merchants who have started up in your area since we began installing these bad boys around your neighborhood. Listen to some of these great gifts:
A coupon good for 1/2 off on Iodine pills from Sue's "Health starts at the Nucleus" Vitamin store.
A complete set of Hazmat suits (even one for your pooch!) in different styles, from "casual" to "semi-formal" for entertaining. Supplied by "John's Dress for Life." I like that way the dosimeter for the men's semi-formal model is hidden behind the tie. Replaceable nucleide-rated respirator filters available from your local Target and Home Depot. Look for the Toshiba NeighborNukr display.
Coupons for a 29-year supply of bottled water. Hehe. As we always say, if it makes it's own light, don't put it in your mouth. You might want to consider getting off that well and onto city water.
A coupon good for 10% off on basement radon proofing from Gary's GasNoMore. Always a good idea!
And I have saved the best for last. We, Toshiba, are going send you and your loved ones to Japan, all expenses paid! After signing a minor waiver, just paperwork, we will fly you all to Japan right before the "big dig" starts, and treat you to two weeks of factory tours, sightseeing, and of course complimentary physical exams.
We want to thank you for your commitments to our clean, safe, reliable, safe technology. We realize you could have chosen to buy more efficient appliances and compact fluorescent bulbs, maybe a little house insulation, and you chose to continue your flagrant waste of energy instead, with our help. For that we congratulate you! I sent you a little personal thank-you gift myself. It's a window sticker for your house (after we move it back...). It says:
Another Glowing House and Family, by Toshiba NeighborNukr
We hope you display it with pride. Construction starts at 7:00 AM sharp tomorrow! _________________ Posted from a Solar/Pedal Powered Computer

we already have expensive technology that provides a household with energy for 30+ years after installation, and you don' t have to put it a hundred feet in the ground....
they call them solar panels and you can mount them right on your roof.
even an unintelligent person can be trained to install them, and you don't need round the clock security or anything like that.
