We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

So we are borrowing more from our kids and it looks like the check is in the mail.

We may spend a little on the pantry, but the biggest portion will be to catch up with the bank for what the calves we held over the winter didn't bring.

Where is yours going to be spent?

Food, probably. More nut trees, maybe.

Maybe replace some flooring and cheapo plumbing fixtures.

No idea. Before this weekend's blow-up in my living room (see the psychology board) I would have said more for the pantry. At this point, who knows.

Sorry. I'm in a crappy mood.

If I had $1500 extra, it would go toward next year's property tax.

It beats having it go to my boss's home equity.

Nothing for me, but I'll spend the time I would have spent with the money working harder so that my neighbors can have more of my money.

Turning barren hillside into ~1500 sq ft of garden space.

Finish buying building materials for the new barn ("barn raising" is May 17th).

Chicken coop for the new babies I am about to order... more pantry supplies, and the piece de resistance: A Country Living Grain Mill! I am so excited. The rest is college tuition money for my second son.

I've got all sorts of options:

-Whores and Blow

-Locking gas cap for the truck

-put it towards a moped

-gun

-solar PV

-expand/enhance the solar hot water system

-woodstove

-whole grains (got the mill last month)

-rebuild the greenhouse
