Yes, it is security , in a transition scenario, that keeps me awake at night. More people, yes, definitely one component. Trusted people, though. Family members and friends, yes, but, as you say, they do not even know they are on my list to be here with me! I feel the urgency of all this, they don't! Sometimes I also think that I may be crazy, since the upcoming collapse is so obvious to me, and not to most of the people I know, who do business as usual, travel, spend, plan to retire and to enjoy grandchildre. They complain about prices and the direction of the world, yes, but that's it. This lack of awareness and lack of urgency drives me crazy!!!
I envision lots of people coming to our doorsteps at the homestead when TSHTF. We may be able to help some, but, hey, things are finite on a small farm. What to do to prevent riots, aggressions, killings...., how to build some strong relationships if not through a culture of peace, equity and mutual support, and yet, how to face a gang at your doorsteps when it will occur....? My family and I are not ready for that, and not sure ever will. We are softies, which works well when things go well. However, we know what's ahead.
Just rambling, sorry, I do need to vent with like minded people and to feel support sometimes...

Maga, you have my support. When I first conceptualized this place it included those who are unaware at present that they will probably end up here. In planning for them in the beginning I have a slightly different vision of what I will do here and it changes some of my actions. I discuss some of my plans and preparations with my brother but not all, especially the more radical tin beanie stuff.
My brother is the poster child for denial. He absolutely refuses to talk about anything that could be construed as serious or distasteful. When it came to funeral arrangements for my father he stepped back into a corner and let me take care of reality. Now we face the disposition of my mom's house, now that she has moved in with my brother and sister-in-law. He ignores it as if it will solve itself. Interestingly enough when it comes to actually doing projects, he jumps in without hesitation. I have known for quite some time that he needs a leader. OK, I can do that. Where did I lay my whip?
I think we will find that when the reality of the crap-hitting-the-fan becomes too apparent to ignore, some former deniers will change overnight like shifting gears in a car. I'm counting on it in fact. I have already set up two more house sites on my place. They are reserved for whoever wakes up first. Those house sites are integrated into my original plan and they will be integrated into whatever security system which I construct.
At this point I see the wisdom of security in depth or layers. Whether the solution ends up being high tech or low tech, redundancy and depth just makes sense. Also, I am leaning towards invisible and "hiding in plain sight" constructions because we don't really know how much the official government infrastructure will fail and how soon. This may be walking a thin line of being the most secure that we can make ourselves and remain "good citizens and good neighbors".
I think also that we all look at the situation differently. Some will see a security system as an insurance policy. Others as digging in for a siege. Still others may see it as just prudent behavior like looking both ways when crossing the street. However we see it, I believe that the time is now to prepare some kind of system. Who knows? Perhaps we can create a nasty little surprise for the Arcturians when they attempt to invade our planet. _________________ "I've been dazed and confused for so long it's not true."

Somewhat tangentially, the very act of changing locals (or returning to the homeplace) as we and I think Buzz and I know a few others have done, increases the likelihood that those of the appropriate mindset will follow.
Some may be fortunate enough to change while they are able, perhaps others might limp in and the rest may fair better where they are now.
Our move promoted two families of close relatives to buy here - very near.
