Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

An Energy Policy That Makes Sense, Revisited
Quote:
CEOs of major oil companies took the unprecedented step to publicly say at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland that worldwide oil supply will not keep up with worldwide oil demand by the year 2015. That is only 7 years from now. If oil prices are $120/barrel today (while oil supply and demand are balanced), what will prices be in 2015? Regardless, it is well past the time to take action. Yet still no word from the President and Congress on a real energy policy to prepare and protect America from the realities of peak oil. Why?
I again submit a comprehensive energy policy below. It has been updated with the excellent feedback I received from the readers of Seeking Alpha. I commend you all for your interest, intelligence, and passion.

Whenever I hear about the CEOs of anything making public statements, I always imagine them meeting with their public relations people beforehand to decide on how they are going to 'spin' the issues, in contrast to what they are prepared to admit among themselves.

Worldwide production is already not keeping up with consumption. By 2015, he says? Look at the data, I say.
He seems to think that the only way out of this crisis, for the US, is to keep finding new energy sources, so that energy consumption can continue rising (though conservation and efficiency measures should be applauded). Why not use less energy?
What is it with these "huge" coal reserves? Call for an independent survey to be done, if he doesn't believe the recent reports on coal reserves.
Drill everywhere? What good would that do?
Some of the points are good, like localisation, but many points are an attempt to keep business as usual going, focusing on oil as the only problem we're ever likely to face in the short term.
