This is my biggest hate too. I guess people get bored with the lack of news so they start fabricating fantasies.
I think the original peak oil "early adopters" were paranoid schizophrenics like golem, people who would have otherwise latched some other "end of the world" meme that plays to their predefined sense of reality. It just so happens that peak oil is real so you have a mixture of these nutcases and rational people as well. So this only has the result of discrediting peakoil.com because of the craziness displayed here (like the 911 merge thread).
So the only way to get anything out of these forums is to ignore half the active posters, otherwise it's like being Bruce Willis in the insane asylum in 12 Monkeys.
Golem isn't schizophrenic, and though he may discredit the peak oil subject, in your mind, archeologists may end up digging through the debris of our civilization someday, find his posts on file somewhere, and marvel at some of his insights.

I very much hate that lately there seems to be an epidemic of religious threads that have nothing to do with peak oil.
Christian perspective on peak oil..
Shaman perspective on peak oil..
Buddhist perspective on peak oil..
What next? Muslim perspective? Zoroastrian perspective? Atheist perspective?
WTF?
PO and religion go hand in hand to some extent, zealotry requiring belief without proof on many levels in both arena's.
I have been amazed myself at the length of the christian perspective thread...at the end of the day it makes sense though. Some people have a tendency towards intellectual dogma versus spiritual dogma, and po appears to have a facade of "scientificness" in it which fulfills this need.
Same zealotry, different arena. Some of these types are adament anti-religious types as well, they can't stand the idea that blind faith is a common component in both places, and causes the same sorts of problems for their point of view. _________________ Freddy RULZ!

I like this site for reasons that are not hard to grasp.. I think Peak Oil is a potentially decisive phenomenon that could dramatically change the current way of life in the industrialised world, so it's nice to get to see what other people from around the world think about it.
I very much do not like the cultish aspect of peak-oilism and how somebody almost instantly gets called names when questions or doubts some or all effects of the petroleum depletion on human life.

I'd like the option to completely Ignore a topic that I do not like or I am not interested in.
Funny, I was just thinking about the Zoroastrians and peak oil the other day.
I was in Azerbaijan (USSR at the time) a few miles from the Iran border a few decades ago counting grains of sand and out in the middle of the desert sat this stone building. We took a break and went over to it. Apparently it was about 1200 years old and was built on that spot because oil flowed freely enabling these fire worshipers to ignite a continuously burning flame (no longer burning... heh) allowing them a nice safe place to... , well, worship with fire.
PO may put the kabash to all this... I was thinking maybe they'll need to find something else to burn.
Thanks for reminding me about the Zoroastrians and PO! Maybe I'll start a new thread!! _________________ Got Dharma?

I dont either love or hate this forum, but it's very interesting. It is addictive, visit often. Also it's in tune with events, and gives a good American view of things to us Brits. (crazy Yanks v crazy Limeys).
Keep up the good work, $135 / barrel now, the excrement is now at optimum velocity in the outward trajectory from the air moving device.
