Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

The US House of Representatives has just voted to sue OPEC over high oil prices.

House votes to sue OPEC to make them lower gas prices

Nancy Pelosi and her Congress still haven't quite figured out the geology and science thing, or the economics and supply and demand things, but as good lawyers they do know how to sue. Smile

They're merely playing to their constituents like all good politicians do, the bastards. Mad

What this nation needs is leadership, unfortunately that is NOT what the people want.

That´s a lot of votes link!!:

Quote:
The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.
...
The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.

The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto.

I would like to ask to the knowable people here: what would be the consecuences of this, would the US not been able to buy anything from OPEC members?.

I'm also interested in the ramifications of this action. Anyone in the know?

First we stop filling the SPR and now this. (oh, and Cllinton's windfall profits tax idea) We really do have our heads up you know where.

I listened to a podcast today about nuclear energy. It takes 7+ years to bring a new facility on line and costs BILLIONS. So even if we did decide to go in this direction (like a lot of other nations did years ago), we are still looking at years of high prices and groveling at OPEC's feet. Not to mention the fact that (a) we have ZERO money to build these things and (b) the price of uranium is about to explode due to worldwide demand. (and againk it's a limited resource)

Oh my this is so frigging sad and pathetic it is hysterical.

US House suing OPEC

Your esteemed politicians at work ladies and gentlemen.

T. Boone ragged on them this morning about suspending the federal gas tax, but this takes the cake.

What complete idiots.

"This bill guarantees that oil prices will reflect supply and demand economic rules, instead of wildly speculative and perhaps illegal activities," said Democratic Rep. Steve Kagen of Wisconsin, who sponsored the legislation.

If there was any doubt about how screwed we really are, it has been removed.

I feel so much better now! Not only has Bush made a mess out of the Middle East, but now congress is doing everything it can to completely screw up the US.

Well, at least oil will probably get a lot cheaper for the rest of the world once OPEC quits selling oil to the US, unless of course we start invading every OPEC country in the world.
