I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

I don't have a link to it, but I guess it played at 6:50 am and 1:15 this afternoon. It had the solar car, our solar panels and our peak oil group, so it may get some interest going in peak oil. I don't know if it mentioned peakoil.com, but the word peak oil must have made it in there a lot.
I have a friend who has the tape of it, so I'll check it out later.

I didn't find the story on CNN yet, but I found another story on CNN Europe about survivalism and peak oil:
Survivalists get ready for meltdown
Quote:
"There's going to be absolute pandemonium when it does happen, so I just want to be prepared so that I'm not a burden on anyone," he says.
Climate change is high up on the list. Also up there is the fallout from a global economic collapse, possibly resulting from a state of peak oil -- the point where oil production reaches its peak and thereafter goes into freefall.
"They're worried by peak oil; the climate shift; the fragility of the economy. They share a lot of the same concerns as our conservative readers," he says.
In the U.S., the movement has occasionally been hijacked by far-right groups attracted by its rejection of much of government and its fierce defense of the right to bear arms. For example, Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh was obsessed with survivalism as a teenager, setting up a generator and a store of canned food and potable water in his basement.

...
Is that the best "for example" association the writer could find?
just lovely...makes me glad I'm not a survivalist. _________________ "It's still all about energy!"

I guess this was the call from CNN that resulted in the interview with Iver Lofving in Maine. Cool. There is now an interview with Iver as a followup to the CNN news feature at this Planning for the Future topic. You can read the interview here and link to full interview at peakoil, too. I connected all the dots to figure this one out. SMILE
