If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

Polar bears. The new poster child for granola eating, berkinstock wearing douchebags who drive their Priuses to Starbucks every day where they spend an hour drinking a 5 dollar coffee and surfing on the Net through the wi-fi hot spot with their Apple Itard computer.

Again, I am not disagreeing with what you said. No truer words have been spoken. But don't forget, most of these people here are new and trying to learn about peak oil. Let's not sugar coat things, but let's not scare them off, either.

Cashmere, I eat granola, wear socks in sandals, and DH is thinking of getting a prius, or some really small energy efficient vehicle. I've spent lots of times having coffee, shooting the breeze with other hippies. You seem gratuitously cruel, in a world that is going to place a premium on gentle kindness. Your world view is one that has to be defeated, more than anything else.

If the douchebag fits, threadbare . . .

I'm not gratuitously cruel. I'm gratuitously honest.

I don't buy it. All the psychobabble crap embodied in that paragraph is no less a product of the oil age than is the SUV.

The "spirit of cooperation and empathy."

Seriously, you have no concept of how humans behave if you'd even utter those words. You must have grown up in a nice home.

The only cooperation you will see is cooperation to ransack the neighbor country for their bounty.

We're heading back there soon.

I hope you all enjoyed the relative peace of the last 60 years.

How is wearing socks in sandals and drinking coffees in cafes worthy of the title of Douchebag? How do you spend your time, and what do you wear? I can just imagine...and it's not a pretty site.

Wrong--cooperation and empathy, where I was born and spent my formative years, on the frigid Canadian prairies, was necessary. It was actually even more necessary for those of my grandparents and parent's generations. I grew up in an average home, by no means particularly nice or wealthy.

If you want to see extreme cooperation in action, go to a really cold climate. They're nearly all socialist democracies, which takes neighbourliness to a whole new level.

Good point Threadbear. It was the same where I grew up, although dying out. Was going strong in the Metis communities in Labrador that I was in in during the 80's and 90's.

Ahh Homesteader, a Canuck, too. That's cool (frigid in the winter, even!) Are you Metis? Most of my friends are. Strange isn't it. It's not like I make them fill out an application form, before we get to know each other, over lattes in our Birkenstocks! Laughing

Jenny, I think its great that you are trying to save polar bears. Since we pretty much all agree that all bad stuff, including polar bear's extinction comes from overpopulation, why don't you do something locally about it. for example, you can find a woman of colour in need and sponsor her sterilisation surgery. Its not that expensive. As a result, anywhere from 3 to 11 hilarious personalities instead of raping Mother Earth through consumption and pollution will be sitting peacefully in non-existance , playing along with my and Angelina Jolie son which was never born since i never met her anyway.

Jenny
Welcome to this rather eclectic forum - the best of British!

as a tip I find a good hot cup of tea tends to solve most problems.

And don't worry about Cashmere he's just got difficult to meet needs but really just wants to be loved (probably got his head flushed at boarding school!)

cheers

I am also very keen on helping the polar bears. Since they are having a hard time finding food, the best thing in the short term would be to feed them. So volunteers are needed from Monsanto, Cargil, Dupont, the Fed, bankers, lawyers, and politicians. They will be thrown out of helicopters to help save the polar bears.

Can you just imagine the headlines? Laughing
