Welcome.
While po.com is visited by interested persons around the world, in general, we in the US don't know much about the energy situation in Portugal because it doesn't appear in our usual media sources.
However if you post some facts about your situation in Portugal, that you want someone to comment about, you'll probably get some response at po.com. |

Welcome Pedro,
There is a "Europe discussion" forum where you can tell us about the situation in Portugal.
Important energy news from your country would go into the "Current energy news" section.

Hello Pedro. Welcome. Life is now. Today. Try to live one day at a time and not overload too much on peak oil information. |

Pedro: I am in Southern Spain, have visited Lisbon a few times when I had a Portuguese boyfriend
First: don't panic about your child's future. My daughter was just 3 years old when I discovered PO and I went through some very dark times. Three years later, the crunch which is upon us is not directly due to PO and so I have some hopes it will not be the sudden catastrophic death of humanity which many on this forum predict.
One very important thing to bear in mind: this is a US oriented forum, the cultural viewpoints represented here are far away from those of Portugal or Southern Spain. Think about the social set up you have now: I bet your family unit is strong, you know and talk with your neighbours. You don't live in an isolated Austrian village where a man can kidnap and rape his own daughter for 20 years without anybody suspecting anything....
Social and cultural norms are strong indicators of the quality of life you might expect during the next 20 years. And while your child is growing up, since he/she will know nothing else, he will make the best of it and with your help, get along just fine. |

hey virgincrude encantado:) iŽm from the north, from Porto...
unfortunately i think the way u do, iŽve read several books, first about PO itself, and then about societies and biology, a lot of internet too of course... and i saddly think a collapse is inevitable... IMO weŽll face a massive extinction in which billions of people will die and i desperately hope iŽm wrong...
As for this being an american forum, i also disagree that weŽre that different, we have some advantages because 30 years ago Portugal and Spain were rural societies practically, and some old people still know how to do things without machines... but me myself i only practically push buttons for a living
weŽre on the same boat as the americans wether we like it or not and when america goes down, weŽll go down with them... i also donŽt think that america is to blame for what goes wrong in the world as most europeans do...
Do u think weŽre that much cohese social and culturally speaking?
look at bosnia, look at the french suburbs with cars on fire, look at immigrant gettos all over europe, look at football hooliganism right here in my city and pretty much everywhere, look ate ETA in the basque country, and the Ceuta and Mellilla situation....maybe everything will be fine... i just donŽt believe it |
