For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

Has anyone seen a news release of ANY sort regarding the goings- on of Dick Cheney? I have not read or heard of him since the B-52 nuclear incident in early September.

One of the articles on the 'dirty bomb' exercise said that he was going to be in Portland some time this week... _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

I read they are sending Michael Chertoff instead (or would that be in addition to the VP?). Cheney, my guess, is home in his personal bunker, monitoring the "dirty bomb" exercises in Portland this week.
From Portland indymedia:
TOPOFF / Vigilant Shield: Urgent Update
Alarming news about the just-begun TOPOFF and Vigilant Shield emerged yesterday in the local lapdog newspaper, The Oregonian:
"Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will be in town to personally oversee the exercise..." [Terror exercise is all set to blast Portland, by Joseph Rose]
Saturday, the day before Rose's article appeared, my satirical article, A Nuclear Nightmare -- The Portland Plan, was widely published. In it I placed archvillain Dick Cheney in Portland to personally oversee the exercises that were to go live. The appearance of archvillain Michael Chertoff on the scene is an uncomfortable parallel to my worst-case scenario. If you haven't seen the article, and would like to, there is a fine version at The Price of Liberty: Film
Many thanks for all the help I have received from so many in my mission of conscience, which has assumed the form of a public affairs effort to make the American people aware of these dangerous terror exercises.
Best regards,
Captain Eric H. May

Living less than one hundred miles from Portland with much family and many friends there, I am anxiously watching the news.

For those who think Dick Cheney was lost or hiding in an underground bunker for the duration, it looks like his friends at FORTUNE magazine have found him.
I saw this in Fortune magazine on line. They seem to just love Dick Cheney, which is good for him as practically nobody else seem to think very highly of him, and some even downright hate him. See Cheney - No bailouts, less taxes, more oil to come
Some Cheney quotes:
Regarding the sub-prime mess: "We have to be careful not to have this set of developments lead us to significantly expand the role of government in ways that may do damage long-term for the economy."
Regarding tax cuts: "Each of the major Democratic candidates wants to allow much of that tax relief to expire - especially for wealthy Americans. Cheney opposes any rollback. "This is identical to a big tax increase," Cheney argues. "And it will slow down the economy."
Regarding oil: "Clearly the world depends on a global supply of oil, and that will continue to be true for some considerable period of time. Efforts to shut down the flow of oil could conceivably have a significant impact."
Who's the real boss in this Republican fiasco of a White House? Seems like its Dick Cheney! Check this: When President Bush's 2008 budget was coming together, with the goal of balancing the budget in five years, Cheney nevertheless insisted on a $947 million line item: a speedup of the flow of crude into the Texas and Louisiana salt caverns housing the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The budget guys pushed back: Can't we wait until crude prices level off? No, the word came back from Cheney, this was urgent. That was all it took.

Yes, from Tehran and bearing the good wishes of the Supreme Leader and of the great prophet himself, bless his name, toward all within the Peakoil Forum.

Well, in that case doubly welcome. Iran and the wider middle-east has indeed been sorely underrepresented on this forum thusfar.
As for Dick Cheney, I think you'll find most of us are very suspicious of him. And as for zealous preachers of the "faith" ; I have the same feeling for the Muslim variants that I have for their Christian cousins.

That makes sense. Considering that Cheney has talked about peak oil problems, he's probably aware that waiting to fill the reserves isn't going to help.

Latest news here in the U.S. is that VP Cheney is currenty in the hospital for a bad heart.
Ahh, the old "play dead to avoid jail" ploy.
If he goes we should at least demand that his corpse is dragged around the streets for everyone to see. Otherwise I will believe he sneeked off to some friendly banana repblic. _________________ Lets take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
