Can you say Fark up???
We are probably facing some of the most severe crisis in the history of mankind in the coming years, but apparently it is most important to make sure nobody is sexually aroused, because GOD forbid that anybody could enjoy themselves!
What is it with the fundies and sex?
"Ugh, I saw a nipple, the horror the horror!" And: "Think of the children!"
But at the same time it is "cute" and totally ok to make beauty contests with 6 year old girls who are dressed up like prostitutes. I just don't get this...

Here in LaCrosse...
Since 1997, Friday night's drowning makes number 9. A young Uw-LaCrosse went off the levee down by the muddy river in the current and was found Monday morning. Rumors are swirling and its a HUGE headline around this area. Before '97, i'm unaware of any drunk drownings (but some might exist).
It seems most of my moron friends thinks someone is pushing these drunk guys in, i think they're drunks, overheated from a night of high powered drinking (which i'm NO stranger to) and getting lost on the way home.
If your unfamiliar with LaCrosse, we have the worlds? largest 6 pack and i swear the most bars per square block. Drinking is a hobby for most around here.
Anyone have any thoughts.

Here a little overhead view of whats going on. The circled area is FULL of bars (the good ones ) and the arrow points to where they are going.
Since '97 La Crosse has done a lot of upgrading to the downtown area. Heres the deal, the good looking young woman tempting these young boyz down to the water.....wait....So La Crosse wants all these giant riverboats full of people to come to the levee (you can see it on the pic above (its reddish) dock, and then travel eastward (downtown) and spend all they're out of town money on junk and food, and to easily be able to get from the river to downtown and back (lots of walkways, lights, etc).
If these drunks would just get in there cars and drive home, we could stop hearing about this serial killer stuff. _________________ "Oil is going up because we use too much oil, and the capacity to replace reserves is dwindling"

Maybe they're getting lost or disoriented in those parkinglots.. end up wandering by the river "enjoying" being near the water, then slipping and falling in.
I've slipped and taken a dip just like that (while fishing) and not even been drunk. Being drunk would have made it less annoying, but perhaps a bit more dangerous...

Exactly. Some i believe (i wish i had the newspapers on this stuff) actually were found with zippers down...whats funner then peeing in the river? Remember too that the banks along the Mississippi here drop off quickly into very currenty water. If i was drunk, i'd be a goner if i fell in the water. _________________ "Oil is going up because we use too much oil, and the capacity to replace reserves is dwindling"

I'm comfortable in swiftwater, but I wonder how well one could master their instincts if drunk. Something I would NOT like to find out.
I've never been on the Mississippi, so I'm not that familiar with how fast the water moves; seems kinda hard for me to imagine it moving that fast and also being both deep and very wide. _________________ abundance fleeting

I've done the annual mountain bike race in LaCrosse but that's the extent of my familiarity with the area.
A sad ironic story happened up the river a way, closer to the Twin Cities. Some guy from 3M, freshly retired, bought a huge boat and was going to go on a long trip down the Mississippi River. Well he was about ready to launch and he noticed that his little poodle wanted to relieve itself. So's the guy gets off the boat and wades toward shore carrying the pooch ... and then he slips on a rock and smashes his head onto another rock. His wife sees her husband fall and gets over there, but too late.

All depends on the water levels (rainfall north of here). The channel is roughly 10-15 feet deep (avg). The current is pretty swift. Water temp out there today was about 59F ( i was out fishing).
Another thing. All these drownings happened in either fall (sept and oct) or April.
The above statement of my friends being morons stands, but not everyone who buys into the serial killer possibility. I can see how you could come to this conclusion, i just don't buy it (never have). _________________ "Oil is going up because we use too much oil, and the capacity to replace reserves is dwindling"

sirens? Hmmm... There are plenty of hotties that hang out downtown, but when your wearing "beer googles" even a an overweight chick with a butch haircut might look appealing...
Oh, no women have went in. _________________ "Oil is going up because we use too much oil, and the capacity to replace reserves is dwindling"

It's not just how fast the surface water is moving, its the undertows and the turbulence as well. All big river estuaries, have some very strong currents at certain parts of the tide. _________________ Kind regards, Katkinkate

Same thing happens with sailors... large percent of men who fell from their sailboats while underway & drowned had open zippers when the bodies were recovered.

From an Australian point of view, the most famous Mississipi River drowning is that of the famous (or should I say infamous) Jeff Buckley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Buckley. He has a sort of cult following here, as I guess he does in the US....?
From a cultural perspective, to me the US is strangely familiar, yet strangely unfamiliar at the same time. There is so much US cultural influence streamed through the media here ; through pop culture, movies, etc:
I feel as if I need to personally visit all 50 US States in order to fully gain a cultural understanding of the place...
To me it feels very strange to converse with US citizens through the medium of the internet most of the time...
