If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

US biofuel producers are turning your food to fuel and 'dumping' it on the cheap in Europe. Subsidies provided by American taxpayers are being used to manipulate European markets while at the same time forcing American grocery bills higher, and doing nothing to lower prices at the pump, all for the sake of Big Ag profits.

It's time for this shameless fleecing of the American people to stop.

The European Commission has launched an investigation into claims that the US is "dumping" subsidised biodiesel onto the European market.

The US government supports the production of biofuels from corn and soya, saying it provides an alternative to expensive, foreign crude oil.

"The Americans [exported] more than a million tonnes of biofuel to Europe last year, all of it heavily subsidised," said Doug Ward, from Scottish biofuel maker Ardent Energy.

"But because it leaves the country, it does nothing to help [the American people]," he added.

To be fair, it does help the US in terms of its trade balance.

A ton of crude oil sells for $800 (something close to that?)

So a million tons of refined biofuel exports are worth at least a billion dollars.

That's not an insignificant number.

But I do agree with the general premise of the article that exporting biofuels does little to address energy security.
