Despite that I was a republican and voted for Bush in 2000, it took peak oil and the last 7-8 years to move me to the democratic party.
Barack Obama has one heck of a mess. Not only by Bush, but also a mess from both the republican and Democratic parties, and also from decades of poor American urban planning, lost jobs, depleted resources, debts, and so forth.
But unfortunately, Obama will paddle his rear end off, he will be like Gorbachev, handed a mess that he did not create and when his term(s) are up, everyone will be angry that he did not deliver cheap energy, more shopping malls, more credit cards, more equity in my ATM house and no more suvs.

You went from Republican to Democrat?
I'd call that going from one heap o dung to another.
Your next step will be figuring out that Dems=Reps
Once you see that, the magnitude of the problem is more apparent.
I ask every Card Carry Democrat I meet - "so what has your Democratic Congress done in the last couple of years?"
Never any answer other than, "Well Bush prevents . . . ".
This, despite the fact that every CCD was convinced that the new Democratic Congress would . . .
1. End the War.
2. Balance the Budget.
3. Institute Universal Healthcare.
So when they tell me they need the White House too, I ask -
Ok, so what will be different 1 year after your man gets in?
Hmm?
They all give a blank look, like they know that the answer is - "not a f--ing thing" - but they haven't gotten to the point yet where they're willing to admit that their chosen party is as much of the problem as the other party.

First, I did not chose the right TOPIC, sorry for that...
Cashemer,
Looks like we agree on many things, however, I look at things in a more global perspective... I like Ron Paul because of his foreign policy stance, I agree the US only has one party with two departments. Not much better than living in a communist nation which typically have one party...
At the end of your last post you asked what will be one year after he takes the office?
My answer: this will take decades to fix, maybe generations. But here we go again, the typical American will demand instant gratification... If I drank 1 bottle of vodka every day for 30 years why should I expect to look my age if I quit drinking for just one year? And chances are, crap will get worse even while Obama is in office because of the inertia of this mess. And forget energy prices, just for a moment and focus on US housing, debt, lost jobs, healthcare, and think, when other nations dealt with such pile of problems, that at least they did it in a world of CHEAP energy... Obama will try to fix or mitigate this as energy prices climb for decades...
America keeps searching for that holly grail, that instant gratification, that silver bullet that will fix it all and deliver 365 days of Christmas.
Obama will be the nurse that helps us contract our energy consumption or help America die gracefully... If Obama stays for two terms, we should be grateful to simply see hope at the end of 8 years. For once, when Americans yammer about leaving something to the next generation besides debts and empty resources, fix this and give America some friggen future.
In Jan of 2009, as Obama walks into his new office, airs out the Bush stench in the Whitehouse, sorry, oil prices will not automatically drop 90% nor will there be rainbows like Bush said he saw in Romania.

I'm rooting for McCain.
For one thing, I bet someone $50 that he'd win.
For another, I enjoy watching the GOP get bashed for problems that are now too big for anyone to solve. _________________ "Actually, humans died out long ago."

Hein- McCain, IMO, bombs Iran and brings about the end of modern civ - I'd prefer to have a few more years before the hard hard crashing.
OP -
Obama won't change anything, and he won't try to change anything.
He has already said he'd . . .
Give money to unemployed.
Raise taxes.
Ban guns.
NOT bring the troops home immediately.
Leave using force on the table vs. Iran.
In sum, it's Bush with a Black face and a much better command of English.
Come on OP, you're being a cornucopian.
How the hell is Obama going to solve or start to solve or lay the groundwork for solving ANYTHING when you have not yet heard him say . . .
Peak Oil
OR
Overpopulation/Overshoot?
Lacking that, it's just a sad joke. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

After today's report on CEO raises coming dangerously close to lagging inflation, the vote will definitely go to Ubama. Executive compensation isn't rising fast enough, & if our leaders lose money we all feel poor. We need to make the rich richer to feel rich, create the welfare programs to fund their real estate investments, nationalize their defaulting banks.
Workers have been robbing the rich for too long by paying rent & getting steady paychecks while the rich lose money on investments. We need to force people to buy houses through a communal system & insure risk takers from all loses. That is definitely not a republican agenda. _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

Are you serious? Nah... you must be joking. How is earning minimum wage while some CEO jerk makes more money in a minute then I do all year make anything better? As an American, I would think that having feudal lords would be distasteful... but I'm sure you were being sarcastic.

Workers robbing the rich? Ha ha! Rent robs the landowner! Ha ha! A low steady paycheck more desirable then investment equity! Ho Ho! Ha ha! I know, I know, I have a good one! We should make people making less the $30k a year pay $5 a paycheck to people who make over $3 million a year to insure them on their investment risks! Ha! HA! Oh, here's another one! We should make rich people subsidize their consumption buy eating old people! I mean those laborers when they are too old to work have to put to use somehow! Heh.
Actually the thing I'm looking forward to the most (and on thread topic) is all the Obamamaniacs getting real disappointed when he's elected and turns out to be just another politician and NOT the Messiah. There's too much corporate government out there only thinking as far a next quarter f-ing everything up beyond repair for Obama to do anything about... even if he was inclined.
